Smith Scores Six As Chiefs Take Game One

The Peterborough Lakers (4-4) traveled west to face the Six Nations Chiefs (5-0) in game one of the Major Series Lacrosse finals at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Haggersville, Ontario.

The goaltending match-up had Nick Rose in net for Peterborough facing Warren Hill in net for the Chiefs.

The Lakers got off to a good start getting up 2-0, but then Dhane Smith got involved in the game.  Smith scored four goals and had one helper lifting the Chiefs to a 5-3 first period lead.

Through the next two periods, Peterborough tried to get on track, but the stifling defense of the Chiefs was too much on this night.

Dhane Smith (6g,3a) continued his hot night, as well as Shayne Jackson (3g, 1a) as Six Nations wins game one of the Major Series Lacrosse finals 11-6.

To The Game:

Braedon Saris opened the scoring for Peterborough on the power-play off a Holden Cattoni pass at 0:25 seconds, followed by Joe Resetarits with a sidearm snipe off a Carter Page feed at 2:01.

Six Nations got on the board when Dhane Smith fired a high to low shot off a Randy Staats pass from in close at 8:58, but Braedon Saris scored tip toeing the crease line off a Mike Robinson pass at 11:42.

Dhane Smith then scored back to back for the Chiefs to tie the game.  The first finishing a Lyle Thompson pass at 14:14, followed by another high to low laser off a Josh Byrne pass at 16:06.

Dhane Smith then potted his fourth of the period with an outside howitzer off a Dawson Theede feed at 16:30, followed by Shayne Jackson with a quick stick off a Dhane Smith pass 0:19 seconds later on the power-play.

After one period, Six Nations 5 Peterborough 3.

Second Period:

Ryan Smith opened the second period scoring with a beautiful move in close off a Lyle Thompson pass at 5:59.   Shane Jackson added a quick stick off a Dhane Smith pass at 9:18, then his third of the game was a snipe off a Josh Byrne feed at 10:54 on the power-play.

Taite Cattoni got Peterborough on the board with a low to low laser off a Holden Cattoni pass on the power-play at 15:17.

After two periods, Six Nations 8 Peterborough 4.

McIntosh

Third Period:

Josh Byrne opened the third period scoring with an outside laser off a Dhane Smith pass at 0:40 seconds, followed by Smith with another high to low blast to the shortside off a Byrne feed at 4:02.

Taite Cattoni got his second of the game on the power-play off a Braedon Saris pass at 6:38, but Dhane Smith answered with his sixth of the night off a Larson Sundown pass at 15:38.

Jake Withers added an unassisted tally for the Lakers 0:14 seconds later off the ensuing faceoff.

Final score, SIx Nations 11 Peterborough 6.

  • Shots on goal favored the Chiefs 57-49.
  • The faceoff battle was won by Peterborough 13-8.
