Matt Marinier The Hero As Cobourg Edges Rock In OT

The Cobourg Kodiaks (3-4) visited the Oakville Rock (1-4) in Major Series Lacrosse action Monday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.

The goaltending match-up had Laine Hruska in net for the Kodiaks facing Troy Holowchuk in net for the Rock.

The Kodiaks came out on a mission in the game jumping out to a 5-1 lead in the first.  Oakville, on the strength of a pair of Ty English goals fought their way back in the game.

The second period had Oakville take more of a controlling aspect.  Josh Dawick led the charge with two goals and one assist in the period to tie the game 7-7 heading to the third.

The Rock continued to plow forward in the third period starting quickly.  Ty English, Tyler Hendryks, and Josh Dawick staked Oakville to a three goal lead, but goals from Jake Harrington, Alex Marinier, and Brock Haley tied the game heading down the stretch.  Regulation solved nothing as the game headed for overtime.

In overtime Matt Marinier was the hero for Cobourg scoring at the two minute mark, giving the Kodiaks the 11-10 victory.

To The Game:

The Kodiaks got on the board first when David Anderson fired a Braedon Saris pass past Troy Holowchuk at 0:59 seconds, followed by Brock Haley with a low to low shot off a Holden Patterson feed at 1:59.

Haley added his second of the period off an Alex Marinier pass at 3:20, but Sam LeClair stopped the Cobourg run with a blast off a Zane Dalpe pass at 4:12.

Cobourg kept up the pressure with Zach Thompson finishing an Aaron Woods pass at 15:04, followed by Woods himself scoring off a Jeremi Phoenix pass 0:07 seconds later.

The Rock got back in the game with a pair of late goals.  The first came from Josh Dawick off a Ty English pass at 16:55, followed by English himself with a shot from a distance with just 0:03 seconds left in the period.

After one period, Cobourg 5 Oakville 3.

Second Period:

Josh Dawick brought Oakville within one goal quickly in the second converting a Sam LeClair pass at 1:30, but Andrew Vradenburg gave the Kodiaks a little breathing room with an unassisted talley at 3:01.

Mike McCannell brought the Rock within one once again with a high to low shot off a Lucas Hucal pass at 3:58, followed by Jack McAlpine tying the game off a Josh Dawick pass at 12:08.

Cobourg grabbed the lead once again when David Anderson got second of the game with an outside blast off a Zach Thompson pass at 12:31, but Josh Dawick fired a laser to the corner off a Luke Robinson pass at 15:30 to tie the game once again.

After two periods, Oakville 7 Cobourg 7.

Third Period:

Oakville continued to press in the third period.  Ty English got his second of the game with an in close finish off a Jack McAlpine pass at 1:25, followed by Tyler Hendryks also converting a McAlpine feed at 2:51.  Josh Dawick then scored his third of the evening with a low to low laser off a Luke Robinson pass at 4:06 to increase the Rock lead to three.

Alex Marinier, and Brock Haley brought the Kodiaks within one goal with 10:43 remaining in the game, then Jake Harrington tied the game on the power-play in this see-saw affair converting an Alex Marinier pass at 13:48. 

After regulation, Oakville 10 Cobourg 10

Overtime:

In overtime Matt Marinier became the hero for Cobourg converting a Taylor Dooley pass at 1:57 for the win.

Final score, Cobourg 11 Oakville 10.

Shots on goal favored the Kodiaks 55-53.
