Hruska Sensational In Net As Kodiaks Come From Behind To Win In OT

The Cobourg Kodiaks (6-6) traveled west to face the Brooklin Lacrosse Club (7-5) in Major Series Lacrosse action at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby, Ontario Wednesday night.

The goaltending match-up had Laine Hruska in net for the Kodiaks facing Zach Higgins in net for Brooklin.

An entertaining game that went end to end for most of the night, saw both goalies play exceptional keeping their teams in the game. 

Both Brooklin and Cobourg had their time in the lead.  Connor Kearnan led the way for Brooklin, while David Anderson was the offensive spark for the Kodiaks.  

Cobourg started the third period on a mission, tying the game quickly, but Sean Westley and Connor Kearnan were able to give Brooklin breathing room down the stretch.   Cobourg continued to press tying the game once more with just 1:21 remaining sending the game to overtime.

In overtime newly acquired Thunder Hill ended the game for the Kodiaks wiring a laser to the shortside to give Cobourg the come from behind victory.  Cobourg wins 11-10.

To The Game:

Brooklin opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal from Chris Boushy off a Tanner Cook pass at 4:33, followed by Brady Kearnan with an outside blast off also off a Cook feed just 0:33 seconds later.

Brock Haley got Cobourg in the game with a nice goal from in front off a David Anderson pass at 8:34, but Chris Boushy restored the two goal lead with a screenshot off a Tanner Cook pass at 11:24.

The Kodiaks made a late push with Aaron Woods converting a Nick Bafia pass at 14:48, followed by Kieran McKay with a low outside blast off a Woods feed at 18:31.

After one period, Brooklin 3 Cobourg 3.

Second Period:

Cobourg took their first lead of the night with a laser from Alex Marinier off a Nick Bafia pass at 0:35 seconds, but goals from Jacob Hickey and Ryan Barnable had Brooklin back in the lead at 3:11.

David Anderson tied the game with an in close marker off a Cole Begley pass at 4:02, but Connor Kearnan restored the Brooklin lead with a laser that caught the corner off a Michael White pass at 14:57.

Anderson tied the game once again with an outside blast off an Aaron Woods pass at 17:55, but a pair of late goals put Brooklin in the lead at the break. 

Connor Kearnan scored with a low to low shot off a Taggert Clark pass at 19:53, followed by Will MacLeod with a buzzer beater off a Kearnan feed at 19:59.

After two periods, Brooklin 8 Cobourg 6.

Lakers

Third Period:

The Kodiaks opened the third period scoring with Alex Marinier scoring his second of the game off a Zach Thompson pass at 3:39, followed by Brock Haley with an inside blast to the corner off an Aaron Woods pass on the power-play at 4:20.

Sean Westley gave Brooklin the lead once more wiring a Will MacLeod pass at 6:40, followed by Connor Kearnan’s third of the night off a Brady Kearnan feed at 12:43.

Alex Marinier brought Cobourg within one with a high to high laser to the top corner off a Brock Haley pass at 17:39, followed by Zach Thompson with a goal from in close off an Aaron Woods pass at 18:39 to tie the game.

After regulation, Brooklin 10 Cobourg 10.

Overtime:

Thunder Hill gave Cobourg the victory with a howitzer to the shortside off a Zach Thompson pass at 3:57.

Final score, Cobourg 11 Brooklin 10.
Shots on goal favored Brooklin 63-49.
