Chiefs Take A Stranglehold On The Series

The Peterborough Lakers (4-6) faced the Six Nations Chiefs (7-0) in game three of the Major Series Lacrosse finals at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Haggersville, Ontario.

The goaltending match-up had Nick Rose in net for Peterborough facing Warren Hill in net for the Chiefs.

A very entertaining period to start the game.  Dhane Smith continued his dominance of the Lakers with a pair of quick goals, followed by Ian MacKay giving the Chiefs a 3-0 lead.  The Lakers got on track with a pair of goals to get within one.  A late goal from Ryan Smith had the Chiefs up by a pair at the break.

The second period was all Six Nations.   The Chiefs scored three unanswered goals, but more importantly, they held the dangerous Lakers squad scoreless.  The Chiefs opened up a five goal leadnheading to the third.

The third saw more of a defensive struggle.  The Chiefs played keep away, trying to kill clock for most of the frame.  Six Nations wins 9-4 to take a 3-0 series lead.

To The Game:

Dhane Smith got the Chiefs rolling early in the game with a pair of goals to start the game.  The first was a great individual effort unassisted at 3:30, followed by a high to low blast off a Brad Kri pass in transition at 4:25.  Ian MacKay then increased the Six Nations lead to three with a low to low laser off a Cody Jamieson pass at 7:29.

The Lakers came back with Joe Resetarits firing a sidearm snipe from the side off a Thomas Hoggarth pass at 10:44, followed by Braedon Saris with a blast off a Taite Cattoni pass at 12:18.

Ryan Smith gave the Chiefs some breathing room converting a Tyson Bell feed in transition from in close at 18:36.

After one period, Six Nations 4 Peterborough 2.

Second Period:

Josh Byrne got the Chiefs on the board in the second with a high to high laser to the corner off a Dhane Smith pass at 5:45, followed by Dawson Theede picking up a rebound off the backboard off a Brendan Bomberry shot from in front at 6:49.  Ian MacKay got his second of the night going five-hole in transition off a Justin Martin pass at 17:51.

After two periods, Six Nations 7 Peterborough 2.

Third Period:

Dhane Smith opened the third period increasing the Chiefs lead with a blast off a Brendan Bomberry pass at 4:49.

The Lakers stormed back with a pair.  Holden Cattoni fired an outside blast off a Taite Cattoni pass at 8:04, followed by Brad McCulley with a laser off a Colton Armstrong pass in transition at 13:36.

Tyson Bell scored in transition unassisted at 15:56 to finish the game.

Final score, Six Nations 9 Peterborough 4.
