Chris Origlieri Stellar in Shamrocks Win Over Thunder

Chris Origlieri was a brick wall between the pipes for the Victoria Shamrocks as they rolled to an 11-4 win over the Langley Thunder on Wednesday night in WLA action.

Origlieri stopped 31 of 35 shots for the win, including all eight shots he faced in the third period.

Marshal King led the way for the Shamrocks with two goals and three assists, while Patrick Dodds recorded two goals and two assists, and Zach Manns added a goal and three assists.

Keegan Okino got the nod between the pipes for the Thunder, stopping 34 of 44 shots. Riku Jokela played 24 seconds and allowed one goal on one shot.

Jon Phillips was in on three of Langley’s four goals, picking up a goal and two assists, while Devin Pipher chipped in with two assists.

Both teams will meet again in the home-and-home series on Friday night in Victoria.

First Period

Victoria opened the scoring at the 5:25 mark when Marshal King found Chris Wardle for a quick stick at the side of the net.

On the power play, Langley moved the ball around before Phillips found the open net at 7:09 to tie the game 1-1.

Only 24 seconds later, Marshal King found Zach Manns down the middle, and he scored with a beautiful behind-the-back shot as the Shamrocks retook the lead.

Victoria extended its lead on the power play when Dodds went short side at the 12:40 mark.

Nathaniel Kozevnikov rounded out the first-period scoring, splitting a pair of defenders with 6:26 left on the clock to make it 3-2 Victoria heading into the first break.

Second Period

Langley tied the game early in the second period when Bailey Vanichuk dove from behind the net on the power play at 2:40 to make it 3-3.

Victoria began to pull away with a three-goal run. Denton MacDonald scored off a tic-tac-toe play at the 7:10 mark.

Dodds then scored on an outside shot at 13:38 to extend the Shamrocks’ lead to 5-3.

Marshal King capped the run on the power play with a hard shot to the back of the net with 3:22 left on the clock.

The Thunder got one back when Trevayne Hunter picked up a rebound off a Dante Kulas shot and scored with 2:34 remaining.

Victoria rounded out the second-period scoring as Davis McCulley scored down low with 1:15 left on the clock, giving the Shamrocks a 7-4 lead heading into the third period.

Third Period

It was all Victoria in the third period as Chris Origlieri stopped all eight shots he faced in the frame.

Marshal King opened the scoring at the 7:42 mark when he found an opening and scored off a bouncer on the power play.

In transition, Cole Pickup found Koen Block down the floor at 9:30 to make it 9-4.

Right off the ensuing faceoff, Tyrell Hamer-Jackson picked up the loose ball and fed MacDonald, who wired a shot into the top corner to give Victoria a 10-4 lead.

The Shamrocks rounded out the scoring 24 seconds later as Block’s shot through traffic found the back of the net to make the final 11-4.
