Shamrocks Take First-Place Matchup Against Burrards

The Victoria Shamrocks won a first-place matchup against the Maple Ridge Burrards, 11-9, on Sunday night in WLA action.

It was a massive win for the Shamrocks, who improved to 8-1 and moved two games ahead of the Burrards for first place. Maple Ridge fell to 6-3, with the Coquitlam Adanacs nipping at their heels at 5-3.

Marshal King led the way for the Shamrocks with four goals and two assists. Meanwhile, Zach Manns had a hat trick, and Jacob Hickey added a pair of goals.

In net, Chris Origlieri was fantastic, stopping 46 of 55 shots for the win.

Marcus Klarich led the Burrards with four goals and two assists. Tyler Pace had a six-point night, including five assists, while Riley Loewen chipped in with two goals and two assists.

Between the pipes, Jack Kask stopped 42 of 53 shots in the loss.

First Period

It was a back-and-forth first period, with the Burrards taking an early lead before Victoria battled back.

Klarich opened the scoring 2:56 into the game, but Hickey tied it at 4:36.

Loewen converted a feed from Drew Andre at the 5:18 mark to give the Burrards a 2-1 lead.

Manns tied the game again at 10:44, before King scored off a feed from Patrick Dodds at 12:27 to give the Shamrocks their first lead of the night.

Klarich found the back of the net with 6:53 remaining in the period to tie the game 3-3 heading into the second.

Second Period

Victoria outscored Maple Ridge 5-1 in a dominant second period to take a commanding lead.

Manns opened the second-period scoring with an unassisted marker at 7:25 as the Shamrocks regained the lead.

He struck again on the power play at the 9:47 mark to put Victoria ahead 5-3.

Loewen scored Maple Ridge’s lone goal of the period on the power play at 10:43.

Luke Pilcher then started a three-goal run for the Shamrocks at 13:02. Hickey scored unassisted at 13:46, and King converted a feed from Manns on the power play at 17:01 to make it 8-4 heading into the third.

Third Period

Maple Ridge tried to mount a comeback in the third period, outscoring Victoria 5-3, but fell just short.

Klarich got the Burrards back on the board with an assist from Pace at 3:27.

Victoria responded just over a minute later, with Manns setting up King to make it 9-5 for the Shamrocks.

Andre made it a three-goal game with an unassisted power-play marker at 5:21.

King added his fourth goal of the game at 6:39 to put Victoria ahead 10-6.

Garret Winter scored for Maple Ridge on the power play with 3:27 remaining. With the goaltender pulled for an extra attacker and the Burrards on the power play, Klarich found the back of the net with 2:15 left.

Just nine seconds later, Hickey found Nick Preston for a Shamrocks goal.

Pace scored with the extra attacker on the floor with 1:11 remaining, but the Burrards ultimately came up short in the first-place matchup, as the Shamrocks earned the 11-9 victory.
