Shamrocks Take Season Series Over Burrards

The Victoria Shamrocks claimed the season series against the Maple Ridge Burrards with a convincing 15-6 victory on Sunday night, powered by a dominant seven-point performance from Marshal King.

King finished with three goals and four assists, while Patrick Dodds matched him with a hat trick and three helpers.

Eli McLaughlin scored twice for the Shamrocks and added an assist, while Zach Manns chipped in with two goals and two assists.

Chris Origlieri was outstanding between the pipes, stopping 42 of 48 shots to earn the victory.

For the Burrards, Tyler Pace had two goals and an assist, while Marcus Klarich recorded a three-point night with a goal and two assists. Reese Barnes was dominant at the faceoff dot, winning 15 of 24 draws.

Jack Kask got the start in goal and was pulled after allowing seven goals. Brandon Humphrey finished the game, allowing eight goals on 30 shots over the final 35:49.

The win improves the Shamrocks to 9-2 and moves them two games ahead of the Burrards (7-4) for first place in the WLA standings.

First Period

The Shamrocks wasted little time taking control.

King opened the scoring at 4:37 before Dodds doubled the lead less than two minutes later.

Garret Winter got the Burrards on the board with a power-play marker, but Victoria answered with three straight goals.

Luke Pilcher restored the two-goal cushion before Dodds converted on the power play. Koen Block capped off the opening frame with just 18 seconds remaining as the Shamrocks carried a commanding 5-1 lead into the first intermission.

Second Period

The Shamrocks buried any hopes of a comeback with a dominant middle frame.

Early in the second, tempers flared as Nate Wade and Jackson Suboch dropped the gloves.

Brodie Wade, King, McLaughlin and Manns scored during the opening 6:22 as Victoria exploded for four unanswered goals to stretch the lead to 9-1.

Tyler Pace scored on the power play for the Burrards at 9:35, but Dodds answered just 44 seconds later.

Kaden Doughty and Marcus Klarich each found the back of the net for Maple Ridge, though Pilcher’s second goal of the night and McLaughlin’s second of the contest kept Victoria comfortably ahead.

The Shamrocks took a 12-4 advantage into the third period.

Third Period

Victoria continued to dictate play in the final period.

Manns opened the scoring before King netted his third goal of the night on the power play to complete his hat trick and give the Shamrocks a 14-4 lead.

Pace responded for Maple Ridge, but Brodie Wade scored his second of the game just 48 seconds later.

Jon Phillips rounded out the scoring for the Burrards late in the contest, but the Shamrocks completed the season series sweep with a 15-6 victory.
