Denver Summit FC announced Thursday that midfielder Nahikari García has been placed on the season-ending injury (SEI) list after suffering a torn ACL in her left knee, dealing a significant blow to the club ahead of its inaugural season.
Head coach Nick Cushing expressed the organization’s full support for the Spanish international as she begins what will likely be a lengthy rehabilitation process.
“Nahikari is in all of our thoughts,” Cushing said, emphasizing that the club’s immediate priority is ensuring García receives the best possible medical care while being surrounded by the support needed throughout her recovery. He also praised her determination and work ethic, expressing confidence she will return to the pitch when the time is right.
García was one of Denver Summit FC’s marquee signings after joining the club in September 2025 as its first international player. Following her signing, she remained on loan with Nottingham Forest Women until January before making the move to Colorado. Prior to arriving in Denver, she spent two successful seasons with Athletic Club Femenina, scoring 12 goals across all competitions.
The veteran midfielder brings an impressive résumé that extends well beyond club soccer. During her career, García starred for both Real Sociedad and Real Madrid, becoming Real Sociedad’s all-time leading scorer while delivering the match-winning goal in the club’s historic 2019 Copa de la Reina triumph. On the international stage, she debuted for Spain’s senior national team in 2018, represented her country at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, captained multiple Spanish youth national teams, and captured the Golden Boot at the 2013 UEFA Women’s U-17 Championship.
While Denver Summit FC now faces the challenge of replacing one of its most experienced midfielders, the club made it clear that García’s health remains the organization’s top priority. Her absence will undoubtedly be felt on and off the field, but Denver will hope the accomplished Spaniard can make a full recovery and eventually return to help lead the club in the future.
