New York City FC continued to invest in its youth development pipeline on Thursday, announcing that MLS NEXT Pro affiliate New York City FC II has signed Academy defender Adonis Campos to a contract through June 30, 2028.
The 18-year-old defender from Lodi, New Jersey, has progressed through every level of the club’s development system since joining the New York City FC Academy in 2019. His signing marks another success story for the club’s player pathway, which is designed to develop homegrown talent capable of competing at the professional level.
Campos made his New York City FC II debut on October 5, 2025, starting and playing the full 90 minutes in the club’s season finale. Since then, he has become a regular contributor during the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro campaign, making nine starts in 10 appearances while adding an assist from the back line.
Beyond his club success, Campos has also built an impressive international résumé with El Salvador’s youth national teams. The defender has represented La Selecta at the U-15, U-16, and U-17 levels, earning 12 international appearances while recording one goal and one assist.
Among his highlights were a goal against Belize in a 2024 U-16 friendly and an assist during El Salvador’s dominant 8-0 victory over the Cayman Islands at the 2025 Concacaf U-17 Championship. Campos later earned selection to El Salvador’s squad for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, appearing twice on the international stage.
The signing demonstrates New York City FC’s continued commitment to developing academy players into professionals while providing valuable experience through MLS NEXT Pro. With two more years under contract, Campos will now look to continue his development and potentially position himself for future opportunities with New York City FC’s first team.
For the New Jersey native, signing his first professional contract with the club where he has developed since 2019 represents another important milestone in what has already been a promising young career.
