CENTENNIAL, Colo. — Denver Summit FC supporters may not have to wait much longer to see one of the most accomplished players in women’s soccer make her debut.
The club announced Thursday that U.S. Women’s National Team captain Lindsey Heaps is now officially rostered and eligible for National Women’s Soccer League competition following the opening of the international transfer window on July 14.
The Colorado native returns home after an extraordinary five-year stint with French powerhouse OL Lyonnes, where she captured 10 trophies, including the prestigious 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League title.
Head coach Nick Cushing expressed his excitement about welcoming Heaps to the club.
“We are thrilled to officially welcome Lindsey home to Colorado,” Cushing said. “Lindsey’s world-class talent and leadership will make an immediate impact both on the field and in our locker room, and we can’t wait to see her wear the crest and take the pitch for the first time.”
Before establishing herself as one of Europe’s premier midfielders, Heaps starred for the Portland Thorns FC, making 105 appearances between 2016 and 2022. During her time in Portland, she earned the 2018 NWSL MVP Award, helped the club capture two NWSL Shields and scored the decisive goal in the 2017 NWSL Championship match.
Internationally, Heaps has enjoyed one of the most decorated careers in U.S. soccer history. Since making her senior debut in 2013, she has earned 178 caps for the USWNT while helping the United States win the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, and Olympic gold at the Paris Games. She has served as team captain since 2023.
With her registration now complete, all eyes will be on Denver Summit FC this weekend as supporters eagerly await the long-anticipated debut of one of Colorado’s own in Summit colors.
