A Long Night For Brampton As Six Nations Scores Early And Often

The Brampton Excelsiors (1-13) visited the Six Nations Chiefs (14-2) in Major Series Lacrosse action Tuesday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Haggersville, Ontario.

The goaltending match-up had Connor O’Toole in net for Brampton facing Doug Jamieson in net for the Chiefs.

Six Nations scored quickly, never let the Excelsiors get into this game.  Ryan Smith and Ian MacKay led the charge to give the Chiefs a 4-1 lead after one.  The onslaught continued in the second with a five goal run in the first 7:25.  Leading 9-1 at this point, Six Nations put it in cruise control.

While Brampton scored three in the third period, the Chiefs were just playing keep-away to kill clock.  Six Nations wins easily, 11-6.

To The Game:

It only took Ian MacKay 0:25 seconds to open the scoring from in close off a Josh Byrne pass, followed by Randy Staats with a blast off a Justin Martin pass in transition at 3:03.  Ryan Smith then put the Chiefs up 3-0 with an in close swim move off a Shayne Jackson pass at 5:50.

Finn Thomson got Brampton on the board with a low laser from in front off a Bowie Horsman feed at 13:43, but Ian MacKay answered with his second of the game off a Randy Staats pass at 19:25.

After one period, Six Nations 4 Brampton 1.

Second Period:

The Chiefs came out on a mission in this period scoring five straight goals to put a stranglehold on the game.

Ryan Smith opened the scoring just 0:30 seconds in, converting an Ian MacKay pass, followed by Dhane Smith with a high to low bounced shot off a Shayne Jackson pass at 2:29.

Justin Martin added a transition goal going coast to coast unassisted at 3:29, followed by Shayne Jackson wiring a low to low shot from the side of the net off a Josh Byrne feed at 4:45.  Ryan Smith then added his third of the night off a Larson Sundown pass at 7:25.

Coltrane Tyson finally got the Excelsiors back on the board at 7:49 off a Finn Thomson pass, but Nonkon Thompson found the back of the net for the Chiefs at 13:24 off a Tim Edwards feed.

Eric Ward kept pressing for Brampton finishing a Bowie Horsman pass at 15:56, but Dalen Burning was able to beat Connor O’Toole stickside at 19:07.

After two periods, Six Nations 11 Brampton 3.

Salmonbellies

Third Period:

The Excelsiors, to their credit, kept fighting.  Caden Merritt fired a low bounced shot to the corner off a Finn Thomson pass at 10:14, followed by Jacob Janke converting a Bowie Horsman pass at 15:01.  Neal Adamson scored late in transition for Brampton but it was too little too late.

Final score, Six Nations 11 Brampton 6.
