The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (7-2) traveled to Peterborough to face the Lakers (7-2) in Major Series Lacrosse action Thursday night at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario.

The goaltending match-up had Zach Higgins in net for Brooklin facing Drew Hutchison in net for Peterborough.

This was a game where the Peterborough Lakers were able to get out to a strong start.  Up 3-1 near the end of the first period, the Lakers were handling business as usual, but things wouldn’t stay as usual.

As the second period started, Peterborough added to their lead with a quick goal from Austin Hasen.   Brooklin then rolled up their sleeves and got to work.  Six unanswered goals in the period for Brooklin changed the complexion of the game.  Led by Sean Westley (4g,4a), Brooklin turned a 4-2 deficit into an 8-4 lead.

The third period showed how much was at stake with play getting very aggressive.   87 penalty minutes were issued in the period as both teams were posturing for the future.  Ten goals were divided amongst the teams as well.  Brooklin held on for a hard fought 13-9 victory.

To The Game:

Taite Cattoni got the Lakers on the board first with a low to low laser off a Joe Resetarits pass at 1:15, but Sean Westley answered with a shorthanded goal off a Will MacLeod pass at 11:27.

Austin Hasen increased the Peterborough lead to 4-2 with a sidearm snipe to the corner off a Mike Robinson pass at 1:00, but Brooklin would counter with a six goal run to change the game.

After two periods, Brooklin 8 Peterborough 4.

Third Period:

This was a wild period in every sense of the word.  A much chippier period led to a number of roughing, unsportsmanlike, and fighting penalties for either team.

Brooklin opened the third period scoring with a Cole Tucker finishing a Will MacLeod pass at 1:41, but Braedon Saris replied from in close off a Taite Cattoni pass at 6:32.

Brooklin added to their lead with Ryan Barnable’s third of the game using a sidearm blast off a Sean Westley pass, followed by Jake Darlison on the power-play in transition unassisted at 11:39.

The Lakers mounted a comeback with three of their own.   Taite Cattoni converted an Austin Hasen pass at 15:08, followed by Jake Withers off the faceoff just a few second later also on the power-play.  Matt Gilray also added a power-play marker just 0:19 seconds after that to tighten the game to 11-8.
