The Coquitlam Adanacs were able to overcome a slow start with a dominant second period to defeat the Nanaimo Timbermen 12-8 on Saturday night in WLA action.
Andrew Gallant got the start in goal for Coquitlam and was sensational. He stopped 45 shots as the Adanacs were outshot 53-48.
The Adanacs were led by Robert Church with a hat trick and two assists. Kean Moon also had a hat trick and an assist for four points, while Connor Robinson recorded a four-point night with a goal and three assists.
For the Timbermen, Colton Lidstone finished with a hat trick and an assist, while Josh Gabriele had two goals and an assist. Andrew Bowman, Gord Phillips and Caelan Mander scored the other goals for Nanaimo.
Delvin Shanahan got the start in goal for Nanaimo, stopping 36 of 48 shots in the loss.
First Period
Nanaimo came out flying, scoring the game’s first four goals.
Gabriele opened the scoring before Lidstone struck twice to give the Timbermen a 3-0 lead.
Gabriele added his second of the period at 13:15 to put Nanaimo firmly in control.
The Adanacs answered before the intermission with three unanswered goals to get back into the game.
Moon started the rally before Robbie Turpin scored just 44 seconds later.
Church cut the deficit to one with 1:14 remaining in the period, sending Coquitlam into the dressing room trailing just 4-3 despite the slow start.
Second Period
Robinson tied the game early in the second before Moon gave Coquitlam its first lead at 5-4.
Phillips answered just 10 seconds later to even the score once again, but the Adanacs seized control with three goals in just over one minute.
Reid Hinds-McDonald broke the deadlock before Church scored his second of the night.
Turpin followed just eight seconds later to cap the outburst and give Coquitlam an 8-5 advantage.
Bowman scored for Nanaimo 18 seconds later, but the Adanacs still carried an 8-6 lead into the final period.
Third Period
Mander brought the Timbermen within one less than two minutes into the third period, but Church completed his hat trick just 46 seconds later to restore Coquitlam’s two-goal cushion.
Lidstone answered with his hat trick goal at 14:10 to make it a one-goal contest once again.
The Adanacs responded immediately.
Moon scored just 13 seconds later to make it 10-8 before Jalen Chaster added a power-play goal less than two minutes later.
Carter Cook put the game away with an empty-net goal in the final 21 seconds as the Adanacs would overcome a slow start to earn a 12-8 victory.
