The Coquitlam Adanacs hosted the Maple Ridge Burrards at the Poirier Sports Complex Saturday night in a Week 2 matchup. Despite having Christian Del Bianco in net, the Adanacs stumbled in Week 1, dropping their first two games. Maple Ridge had a difficult draw in Week 1 as well, losing to Victoria, then New Westminster. The Burrards appeared to be on the way to their first win after two periods, leading 9-5. However, the Adanacs rallied to force overtime, and came away with their first point of the season after salvaging a 9-9 tie.

Maple Ridge in control through first two periods

The Burrards quickly got out to a 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from Riley Loewen (0:27) and Marcus Klarich (4:38). David Charney (9:09) and Jalen Chaster (13:58 power play) leveled the game for the Adanacs. Klarich added two more (14:34; 17:31), and Garret Winter (18:30) gave Maple Ridge a 5-2 lead after the first period.

Adam Noakes (2:11 second period) broke the run for Coquitlam, but Maple Ridge would go on another three-goal run. Markers from Ethan M’Lot (2:42), Dylan McIntosh (4:32), and Anthony Kalinich (9:25 power play) extended the Burrards’ lead to 8-3. Chaster (15:03) and Matthew Delmonico (15:15) scored 12 seconds apart to cut the Adanacs’ deficit to 8-5 before Ryan Jones (17:43) restored a four-goal lead for Maple Ridge going into the third period.

Adanacs rally in third period for tie

The third period was all Coquitlam, as they rallied with four unanswered goals to tie the game. Scoring for the Adanacs were Chaster (0:48 power play; hat trick goal), Kean Moon (6:32), James Rahe (13:16), and Charney (19:49 shorthanded, extra attacker). Maple Ridge only managed nine shots in the third period, and goaltender Christian Del Bianco stopped them all to force an overtime period. Neither team was able to capitalize in the extra frame, resulting in a 9-9 tie.

Klarich (3g, 2a) was named 1st Star of the Game for Maple Ridge. Noakes (1g, 4a) and Rahe (1g, 3a) took home 2nd Star and 3rd Star honors, respectively, for the Adanacs. Coquitlam is now 0-2-1, earning their first point this season. They host Langley in Week 3 on Saturday 6/7. Maple Ridge travels to Victoria on Friday before hosting Coquitlam in a rematch on Sunday.
