Playoffs Week 3

“Muffler” Mike Kostiuk:

Game 2: Georgia at Halifax

Halifax. The momentum is clearly on the side of the Thunderbirds after a huge road win in Game 1. The veterans on this team know that their window to win may not be open for much longer. Those same veterans have the experience and savvy necessary to take that next step to the Finals.

Game 3: San Diego at Toronto

San Diego. They don’t belong…they were under .500…they got a gift from the refs…I keep hearing all these reasons why the Seals can’t (or shouldn’t) win. I’ll choose to focus on the reasons why they can, particularly the ability to hang around in critical moments when they seemingly *should* be resigned to losing.

Game 3: Halifax at Georgia

Halifax. Georgia may even the series in Game 2, but I just don’t see them managing to win in Halifax on back-to-back nights, even if they are considered the home team for Game 3.

Shawn Slaght:

Game 2: Georgia at Halifax

Pick – Halifax

The Thunderbirds are case number one of getting hot at the right time. Warren Hill has been outstanding and they are spreading the ball around and getting depth scoring. The Nest is tough place to play for visiting opponents and Georgia’s back is against the wall.

Game 3: San Diego at Toronto

Pick – Toronto

Despite a lacklustre Game 2, I have full confidence the Rock will bounce back. There is too much talent on this team not too and they have the joy of home field advantage.

Game 3: Halifax at Georgia

Pick – Halifax

If it goes to game 3, it think it’s going to be a tough task beating Halifax twice on their home floor. As long as they continue to stay disciplined they’ll punch their ticket to the championship series.

Gary Groob:

Georgia vs. Halifax

Georgia wins.

With their backs to the wall, the Swarm put up a strong game on both sides of the ball.  Lyle Thompson puts the team on his shoulders for the victory.

SD vs. Toronto

Toronto wins.

The Rock do not play well in day games.  This is a night game, in front of a friendly crowd.  Look for big games from CJ Kirst, and Mark Matthews.

Halifax vs. Georgia

Halifax wins.

Warren Hill has the ability to steal games.  Hill plays a huge part in this game.  Look for Clarke Petterson and Cody Jamieson to add scoring punch to the Thunderbirds attack.

Warriors

Pat Bernard:

Georgia vs. Halifax (Game 2)

Georgia Swarm

San Diego vs. Toronto (Game 3)

Toronto Rock

Halifax vs. Georgia (Game 3)

Georgia Swarm

Caden Balint:

Game 2:

Georgia @ Halifax — Pick: Halifax

Halifax just looks like the more complete team right now. They absolutely bullied Georgia in Game 1 with possession and faceoff dominance, and when Jake Withers is controlling the dot like that, the Thunderbirds offense gets endless extra chances. I also trust Warren Hill more at home in a playoff atmosphere than I do Georgia trying to survive another barrage of shots.

Game 3: SD @ Toronto — Pick: Toronto

Toronto already showed they can handle San Diego’s pace, and that offense tends to snowball once the crowd gets into it. The Seals can score with anybody, but they still give up too many momentum runs defensively, and Toronto feels a little tougher mentally in close playoff games. I think this one turns into a track meet and the Rock edge it late.

Game 3: Halifax @ Georgia — Pick: Halifax

Until somebody proves they can slow down Halifax’s transition game, I’m riding with them. Their offense has been coming in waves all postseason, and Georgia’s defense looked overwhelmed once Halifax settled in during the last matchup. Lyle Thompson can keep the Swarm alive for stretches, but Halifax just has more answers top to bottom right now.
