Week 8 picks:

“Muffler” Mike:

VAN @ OTT

Ottawa. Both teams are playing solid lacrosse right now. I think Zach Higgins will outduel Aden Walsh in net in a close one to kick off the weekend.

ROC @ HFX

Halifax. Make no mistake, the Thunderbirds’ buzzer-beating win was huge for a team that looked ready to fully implode prior to the start of that game.

SASK @ TOR

Saskatchewan. The Rush are younger, healthier, and hungrier. And while Toronto has shown more fight in their last three games versus their first two, it may soon be time to start fielding trade inquiries from playoff-contending buyers.

COL @ ALB

Albany. Look at their next 5 opponents and you’ll agree this game is a must-win for the FireWolves.

PHI @ BUF

Philadelphia. Going with the major (yes, major) upset here. If any team has the firepower to knock the Bandits from the undefeated ranks, it’s the Wings.

GA @ CGY

Calgary. Georgia has seemingly been struggling in all aspects of the game the last two weeks. The Roughnecks can use this as a chance to send a message that they are no pushover this year.

SD @ LV

San Diego. The Seals rarely lose back-to-back games the same way the Desert Dogs rarely score 13 or more goals in a game.

VAN @ PHI

Vancouver. An extra day of rest helps the Warriors salvage a key split of their doubleheader weekend.

Shawn:

Vancouver vs Ottawa

Pick – Vancouver

The Warriors have found their groove and that’s bad news for the rest of the league. Also coming into a doubleheader weekend, Vancouver is going to want to get off to a quick start.

Rochester vs Halifax

Pick – Rochester

The grudge match. These teams are pretty equal and Rochester has the talent to get revenge in the rematch.

Saskatchewan vs Toronto

Pick – Saskatchewan

Yes, the Rock are getting healthy and this will be a close game but I have to go with the Rush. Saskatchewan’s defence makes it difficult to get to the inside and are not than happy to give up outside shots, while the Rock live and die on outside shots. Look for Zach Manns to have a big game against his former team.

Colorado vs Albany

Pick – Colorado

Albany just can’t finish games. The talent is there but they can’t play a full 60 minutes. Until they can prove otherwise I’m going with the Mammoth.

Philadelphia vs Buffalo

Pick – Buffalo

A tough way to start a doubleheader weekend. Really the only team that can beat the Bandits right now are the Bandits themselves and it’s just too hard to predict when they will have an off night.

Georgia vs Calgary

Pick – Georgia

With the way the Swarm have played the last couple weeks, it was tempting to go with the Roughnecks. However, Georgia is too talented of a team. They’ll break out of this funk they are in fairly quickly.

San Diego vs Las Vegas

Pick – San Diego

I’m not even sure where to start with the Desert Dogs. Las Vegas seemed completely out of sync last week. San Diego has been struggling to find the back of the net but they’ll still do enough to get the win.

Vancouver vs Philadelphia

Pick – Philadelphia

This has to be the game of the week. Not much is separating these two teams. I can’t see Philly going 0-2 this weekend so they’ll finish strong against the Warriors.

Gary:

Vancouver vs. Ottawa

Ottawa wins.

I give a lot of respect to this Black Bears team this year.  I think it will be a tight game, but the long travel will have some effect on the Warriors.

Rochester vs. Halifax

Halifax wins.

Last week’s game was nuts!  This week will be a much lower scoring game, with both teams bolstering up their defenses.  I give the edge to the home team.

Saskatchewan vs. Toronto

Toronto wins.

INCONCLUSIVE!!  Man, I’m sick of that word!!  The Rock have played well enough to win their last three games.  They break through in front of the sell out home crowd.

Colorado vs. Albany

Colorado wins.

Albany is inside their own heads right now.  Colorado is rolling.  This Mammoth team can score a lot in a hurry.

Philadelphia vs. Buffalo

Buffalo wins.

Too many weapons on offense, too overpowering of a defense.  I think the Wings have long night in Banditland.

Georgia vs. Calgary

Georgia wins.

The Swarm right their ship this week.  Look for more balanced scoring  with Andrew Kew and Shayne Jackson breaking out in this game.

San Diego vs. Las Vegas

San Diego wins.

The Seals break out with double digit scoring in this game.  However, if they don’t get out to a quick start, this has all the makings of the upset of the week.

Vancouver vs. Philadelphia

Vancouver wins.

The extra day of rest will help the Warriors.  This will be a run and gun game.  I think the Warriors have a bit better chemistry than the Wings for now.

Pat:

Vancouver vs. Ottawa

Vancouver

Rochester vs. Halifax

Halifax

Saskatchewan vs. Toronto

Saskatchewan

Colorado vs. Albany

Colorado

Philadelphia vs. Buffalo

Buffalo

Georgia vs. Calgary

Calgary

San Diego vs. Las Vegas

San Diego

Vancouver vs. Philadelphia

Philadelphia

Caden:

Vancouver vs Ottawa

Pick – Ottawa

I said on the show, the Nathan Grenon Effect, and while I feel like there is some truth to it, I just feel like Black Bears has been on one since making the move to Ottawa. Yes, Vancouver has been playing some great lax, however, I think Ottawa’s been better, and they will continue to prove that this week.

Rochester vs Halifax

Pick – Rochester

OH boy, what a game last week. While I don’t think these two teams will be able to reenact the 37 goals dealt in last week’s matchup, I do feel as if Rochester will come out swinging and take this one from the Thunderbirds.

Saskatchewan vs Toronto

Pick – Saskatchewan

The Rock showed a lot of promise last week, especially Captain Challen Rogers, who came back flying with seven points in his return game. However I just feel like the Rock still aren’t there yet. I expect the Rush to take this one.

Colorado vs Albany

Pick – Albany

What can I say about Albany that hasn’t been said these past couple of weeks, they have no problems starting the game off, but when it comes to the second half, they just seem to be a deer in headlights. However, they have a ROUGH schedule coming up over the next couple of weeks and if they want to start strong, they NEED to come away with a win here.

Philadelphia vs Buffalo

Pick – Buffalo

Once again I will NOT be picking against the Bandits until they prove to have an “off” night, which seems like it may never happen. While the Wings might be able to give them a run for their money, I’ll be going with the Bandits.

Georgia vs Calgary

Pick – Georgia

Georgia has taken a rough couple of losses lately, however I fully believe that they are gonna come back with a fire in their bellies and take this one away from the Roughnecks to put them back into the win column.

San Diego vs Las Vegas

Pick – San Diego

The Seals have to do one thing in this game, that’s score in the double digits, something Vegas has really struggled to do. While both teams have had some struggles lately, I’ll take the Seals to stop their struggles first.

Vancouver vs Philadelphia

Pick – Philadelphia

The Wings having a two game weekend is very interesting, and after a (potential) loss to the Bandits, Philadelphia will have only one thing on their mind, dominance. The Warriors will have an extra day of rest, yes, but the Wings will be more ready than the Warriors would ever expect.
