“Muffler” Mike..30-23  .566
Caden………………27-26  .509

Week 11 picks:

“Muffler” Mike:

Calgary vs. Ottawa

Calgary. Even though the Roughnecks are in last place in the standings, I have more concerns about whether this Black Bears team can get over whatever hurdle is causing them to lose games they should be winning right now (of which this will be one).

Oshawa vs. Toronto

Oshawa. Home game? Check. Chance to split season series? Check. Resurgent offense and steady goaltending by backup forced into starting action? Double check. I’m still taking Doug Jamieson and a desperate FireWolves team over all of that.

Philadelphia vs. Buffalo

Buffalo. It’s a “get right” game for the Bandits, who have now lost three in a row. The bad news for Buffalo: the remainder of their schedule has no more “get right” games.

Las Vegas vs. Georgia

Georgia. Both teams went through substantial rebuilds in the offseason. The difference is the Swarm have a goaltender who is making a strong case to be the league MVP.

Saskatchewan vs. San Diego

San Diego. First of two meetings this year. The Seals worked out some major kinks in their offense during their sweep of Philly – I’m banking on a continued build of that momentum as they make it two straight wins at home after an 0-3 start.

Rochester vs. Vancouver

Vancouver. Regardless of whether Rylan Hartley sits out due to suspension or plays while on appeal, the Warriors are starting to see their full capabilities on offense. This game will be closer than the first one, but Vancouver earns a crucial series sweep.

Shawn:

Calgary vs. Ottawa

Pick – Ottawa

The Roughnecks seem to be a team regressing. After losing a few close ones to open the season they are now starting to fall back. Ottawa has had their struggles but they have enough talent to right the ship.

Oshawa vs. Toronto

Pick – Toronto

This young Rock team is starting to gel and that is a good sign and Troy Holowchuk looks solid in goal. Meanwhile, something is just not clicking for the Firewolves and they can’t put a complete game together.

Philadelphia vs. Buffalo

Pick – Buffalo

This is just what the doctor ordered for the struggling Bandits. They are going to be coming into this game pissed off and it’ll show. The Wings, on the other hand, are in complete disarray.

Las Vegas vs. Georgia

Pick – Georgia

I have to give the edge to Georgia because of goaltending. Brett Dodson has been outstanding, while Landon Kells has been inconsistent and he hasn’t gotten much help from his defence. Vegas can win if it’s a high-scoring affair, but I don’t see it.

Saskatchewan vs. San Diego

Pick – Saskatchewan

San Diego has picked up the slack as of late, so this will be the true measuring stick. Saskatchewan still seems like the most complete team in the league right now, so I’m having a hard time betting against them.

Rochester vs. Vancouver

Pick – Vancouver

Controversy aside, Vancouver is starting to look like the Warriors team we were expecting. Rochester will have to put everything that happened last game if they want a chance to win. I think they will but Vancouver’s firepower will be too much.

Gary:

Calgary vs. Ottawa

Ottawa wins.

Both teams have been struggling.  While Calgary have had decent games, I haven’t seen them play a full 60 minutes.  Whenever you have Jeff Teat in your lineup, you can win!  Ottawa is deeper in my opinion, and Will win this game.

Oshawa vs. Toronto

Toronto wins.

Look out league, the Rock are starting to believe in themselves.   While they have had this talent all season, the confidence is briming in Rock City.  Troy Holowchuk has proved he is a bonafide starter in the NLL.

Philadelphia vs. Buffalo

Buffalo wins.

Buffalo was embarrassed last week in Denver.  Nothing is more dangerous than a wounded bear in the woods.  Look for the Bandits to push the offensive tempo.  If Philly can’t keep up, it will be a long night for them.

Las Vegas vs. Georgia

Georgia wins.

Georgia’s defense has been excellent all season.  Brett Dobson is already in the conversation for Goalie of the Year, and MVP.  While Las Vegas has a strong offense, there defense isn’t always stellar.  Look for Lyle Thompson to put the Swarm on his shoulders.

Saskatchewan vs. San Diego

Saskatchewan wins.

This is my game of the week!  Who can beat the Rush?  They have been absolutely unstoppable in recent weeks.  San Diego has been much improved the last few weeks, but is it enough for the Saskatchewan bullet train?

Rochester vs. Vancouver

Vancouver wins.

I don’t expect any extra curricular activities in this game.  I do expect the Knighthawks to show more than they did last week.  However, this Vancouver team is on the rise.  With Christian Del Bianco in net, the offense doesn’t need big numbers.  Look for a closer game, but the Warriors win in the long run.

Warriors

Pat:

Calgary vs. Ottawa

Ottawa

Oshawa vs. Toronto

Toronto

Philadelphia vs. Buffalo

Buffalo

Las Vegas vs. Georgia

Las Vegas

Saskatchewan vs. San Diego

Saskatchewan

Rochester vs. Vancouver

Vancouver

Caden:

Calgary Roughnecks vs. Ottawa Black Bears

Prediction: Ottawa to win.

Calgary’s still trying to find consistency after a rough start to the season, while Ottawa has been more competitive in the middle of the pack. The Black Bears have shown they can score and hang tough, and Calgary’s struggles aren’t fully fixed yet.

Oshawa FireWolves vs. Toronto Rock

Prediction: Toronto to win.

Oshawa is still building chemistry in a new market and has struggled a bit this season, whereas Toronto’s a pretty steady team right around the middle of the standings. Rock’s experience and home-region rivalry edge should help them pull away late.

Philadelphia Wings vs. Buffalo Bandits

Prediction: Buffalo to win.

Philadelphia’s been near the bottom, and Buffalo — even with some ups and downs — boasts elite scorers and championship pedigree. The Bandits are built to roll through teams that don’t match their firepower.

Las Vegas Desert Dogs vs. Georgia Swarm

Prediction: Georgia to win.

This should be a closer game, but Georgia’s ahead in the standings and plays solid team lacrosse. Las Vegas has talent but has been inconsistent against mid-tier teams, whereas the Swarm tend to find ways to grind out close wins.

Saskatchewan Rush vs. San Diego Seals

Prediction: Saskatchewan to win.

Saskatchewan’s one of the best teams in the league with a top-flight offense and defense, and they’ve consistently been near the top of the standings. San Diego’s solid, but the Rush have that extra gear right now.

Rochester Knighthawks vs. Vancouver Warriors

Prediction: Rochester to win.

The Knighthawks had everything fall apart on them last week. Look for a bounce back game. Connor Fields and Ryan Smith with monster games.
