Week 7 picks:
“Muffler” Mike:
OTT @ GA
Georgia. Both teams are well-rounded but coming off losses that perhaps shouldn’t have happened. I’ll take the home team in a toss-up, as Brett Dobson rebounds from an atypical outing last week.
TOR @ BUF
Buffalo. The Bandits appear unstoppable, while the Rock take another lap on the injury carousel. This rivalry may be fierce, but it’s simply not even right now.
SD @ VAN
Vancouver. I think this game will come down to transition and faceoffs, which gives an edge to the Warriors.
CGY @ PHI
Philadelphia. Ah, the Finals matchup I had predicted for last year (cough, hack, wheeze)…another toss-up, in my opinion. Going with Wings on the strength of their improved defense and more balanced scoring.
HFX @ ROC
Rochester. Between news of the suspension to Tyson Bell, the potential goaltender dilemma between Hutchison and Hill, and the retro uniforms the Knighthawks will be wearing, this quickly becomes a statement game.
LV @ SASK
Saskatchewan. Yes, Las Vegas got in the win column, and I’m excited to see that. But they also failed to reach 13 goals scored yet again. The Rush pull away late in this one.
ALB @ COL
Colorado. The Mammoth offense is clicking on all cylinders. Meanwhile, it sounds like the FireWolves will be without their captain for the short term – a big blow to a defense struggling to replicate last year’s level of play.
Shawn:
Ottawa vs Georgia
Pick – Georgia
Yes, Georgia took a bad beating this past week. I’m going to chalk that up to a bad week. This team is just too talented. Ottawa will give them a competitive game but the Swarm will come out on top.
Toronto vs Buffalo
Pick – Buffalo
This pick was a lot harder than I thought. The Rock are slowly improving and they usually play Buffalo tough. However, the Rock are still banged up and the Bandits are a juggernaut right now.
San Diego vs Vancouver
Pick – Vancouver
I’m still not convinced with this San Diego team. Chris Origlieri has bounced back but the offense isn’t scoring goals. The only hope is if they can keep this a low scoring affair and I don’t see it.
Calgary vs Philadelphia
Pick – Philadelphia
I’m going to bit on a gut feeling. Both teams are fairly even matched. I’m going on the fact that Damude is a bit more seasoned compared to McLeod.
Halifax vs Rochester
Pick – Rochester
This is the most interesting match to me because I just can get a beat on either team. Both have been hot and cold. I’m going with Rochester going off the momentum of their last win.
Las Vegas vs Saskatchewan
Pick – Saskatchewan
I think the depth of this Rush team will be too much. You can’t read too much into their loss to Philly as they were missing two key weapons in Austin Shanks and Robert Church. Shanks is back to add to the firepower.
Albany vs Colorado
Pick – Colorado
Albany needs to play a full 60 minutes. It’s as simple as that. Yet the Mammoth are playing their best lacrosse right now.
Gary:
Ottawa vs Georgia
Georgia wins.
This is going g to be a low scoring affair, with two of the premier goalies in the league. Look for Georgia to right the ship using all their tools.
Toronto vs Buffalo
Buffalo wins.
Sorry Toronto. I really want to believe that you can stop this juggernaut of a team. Buffalo has so many weapons, and Matt Vinc is once again looking inVINCable. Challen Rogers returns, but they lose Mark Matthews as the injury woes continue to hamper this Rock team.
San Diego vs Vancouver
Vancouver wins.
I am still on the fence with the Seals. I have seen moments of greatness, and then moments of mediocrity. Vancouver is looking strong, and is healthy. With a full house, the party will be electric.
Calgary vs Philadelphia
Philadelphia wins.
There are so many weapons available for the Wings to use. Look for Brennan O’Neil to be even more involved in the play making as his box lacrosse IQ keeps increasing. Calgary is known to come from behind, however, the Wings will make them pay if they fall behind in this one.
Halifax vs Rochester
Rochester wins.
The Knighthawks that played last week is the one I expected all season. Look for them to build on the momentum from last week’s W. While Halifax had a good week last week also, they still are making more news off the floor than on it.
Las Vegas vs Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan wins.
Saskatchewan is for real. Look for a healthy, rested Rush team to run the Desert Dogs up and down the floor all night. Saskatchewan wins by a few in this one.
Albany vs Colorado
Colorado wins.
There is a lot of pressure for Albany to get back to their winning ways. Going to the Loud House isn’t usually a good prescription when trying to right the ship. Colorado is firing on all cylinders right now, and will hand the FireWolves another harsh loss.
Pat:
Ottawa vs Georgia
Georgia
Toronto vs Buffalo
Buffalo
San Diego vs Vancouver
San Diego
Calgary vs Philadelphia
Philadelphia
Halifax vs Rochester
Rochester
Las Vegas vs Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan
Albany vs Colorado
Colorado
Caden:
Ottawa vs Georgia
Pick – Georgia
I’m gonna back the Swarm here, yes they lost a surprising game last week but I fully expect them to bounce back this week against Ottawa. But don’t get it twisted, I can see Ottawa coming out with a vengeance and shocking Georgia with fast play.
Toronto vs Buffalo
Pick – Buffalo
Champs are proving why they are the champs, while I expect Toronto to compete, they won’t win, Buffalo here.
San Diego vs Vancouver
Pick – Vancouver
This game is definitely a toss up, I’m gonna be going with the Warriors, I just feel as if they can bring a shock to San Diego and put them out of reach early.
Calgary vs Philadelphia
Pick – Philadelphia
How can I go against the Wings right now, everything is going right for them. They are firing on all cylinders, Brennan O’Neill has arrived and he’s just getting better. Right now this Philly team seems hard to beat, however watch out for the *Dane Dobbie effect*.
Halifax vs Rochester
Pick – Rochester
Welp, the suspension is out now, no Bell for 7 games, and while it didn’t lay heavy on the heads of Halifax in their last game, I think it will here. Topped with uninspiring goaltending from Warren Hill yet still a struggling choice on who to start. For Rochester, they are coming off a surprising win over Georgia and I expect them to continue it this week. I’ll be taking the Knighthawks.
Las Vegas vs Saskatchewan
Pick – Saskatchewan
Yes, Vegas just won in a pretty impressive way, Jackson Webster having arrived in only game 1 of his NLL career. With that being said I cannot pick against the Rush and the depth they bring. I will be picking Saskatchewan here.
Albany vs Colorado
Pick – Colorado
Albany has no problems starting off strong, but they seem to always have a “2nd Half of Horrors” where they can’t finish. While my heart if fully behind my guys, until they can prove they can finish a game, I can’t choose them. I’m gonna be going with a surging Mammoth team.
