The Cobourg Kodiaks (5-6) visited the Peterborough Lakers (7-4) in Major Series Lacrosse action Thursday night at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Drew Hutchison in net for the Lakers facing Jackson Brown in net for the Kodiaks.
After a strong start by Peterborough jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Cobourg Kodiaks got rolling with three unanswered goals in the frame. Holden Patterson led the charge with a goal and two helpers in the Kodiaks push.
A much chippier second period saw both teams spend time in the box. Cobourg was able to capitalize on their opportunities getting out to a three goal lead in the period, but a late shorthanded goal from Matt Gilray tightened the game, setting up a must see third period.
The Third saw the Lakers get back in it with a pair of goals to tie the game early in the period. Unfazed, the Kodiaks got back to work scoring a power-play goal, followed by a shorthanded goal to restore the two goal advantage.
Taite Cattoni scored his fourth of the night, with 9:23 left to bring the game within one, but from that point on, the Lakers couldn’t solve Jackson Brown in the Cobourg net. Brown made a number of key saves to keep it a one goal cushion. The Kodiaks hang on for a 9-8 victory over Peterborough.
