Burrards Remain Undefeated With Win Over Timbermen

The Maple Ridge Burrards remain undefeated after picking up a 9-7 win over the Nanaimo Timbermen in WLA action on Sunday night.

Maple Ridge held a 6-2 lead midway through the second period before Nanaimo rattled off five straight goals to take the lead.

However, the Burrards responded with a three-goal run of their own to close out the game and earn their fifth straight victory.

With the loss, Nanaimo falls to 2-3 and sits in fifth place, one game back of the New Westminster Salmonbellies.

Garret Winter had a huge night for the Burrards with four goals and one assist. Marcus Klarich also finished with five points, including two goals and three assists.

In goal, Jack Kask picked up the win, stopping 43 of 50 shots.

Noah Manning led the Timbermen with a hat trick and one assist, while Andrew Bowman had a goal and two assists. Colby Bowman stopped 43 of 52 shots in the loss.

First Period

Kask had a strong start to the game for the Burrards, stopping the first 14 shots he faced to blank the Timbermen in the opening period.

Winter opened the scoring at the 9:10 mark, followed by Riley Loewen setting up Klarich to make it 2-0.

Winter rounded out the scoring in the period. With the extra attacker on the floor for the final possession, he scored with four seconds remaining to give Maple Ridge a 3-0 lead.

Second Period

Nanaimo started to claw its way back into the game with two quick goals to open the second period.

Andrew Bowman scored 56 seconds into the frame, and Manning added another 50 seconds later to make it a one-goal game.

The Burrards replied with a three-goal run as the momentum continued to swing back and forth. Winter scored on the power play at 3:02, followed by Loewen finding the back of the net at 4:14.

Nathan Miller scored off an assist from Nash Moog at the 9:55 mark to put Maple Ridge up 6-2.

Manning scored at the 11:00 mark of the second period to start a five-goal run for the Timbermen.

Colby Bowman found Jordon Vincent in transition at 14:05 to make it a two-goal game. Seventeen seconds later, Logan Schmidt found the back of the net to cut the lead to 6-5.

Nanaimo found the equalizer with 2:18 left on the clock as Manning scored unassisted to tie the game 6-6 heading into the third period.

Third Period

Nanaimo took its first lead of the game one minute into the third period when Tysen Fontaine scored.

However, Maple Ridge scored three unanswered goals to finish the game.

Dagan Carlson scored the tying goal off an assist from Winter at the 5:58 mark. On a delayed penalty, Klarich scored what would stand as the game-winner.

Winter added an insurance goal on the power play with six minutes remaining as the Burrards picked up a 9-7 victory to remain undefeated.
