Chiefs Sweep North Stars, Now Head To MSL Final

The Six Nations Chiefs (4-0) traveled to face the Owen Sound North Stars (0-4) hoping to close out their Major Series Lacrosse semi-final at the Meaford-St. Vincent Community Centre Saturday afternoon.

The goaltending match-up had Doug Jamieson in net for the Chiefs facing Kaleb Martin in net for the North Stars.

The Six Nations Chiefs left no doubt in this game going up 6-0 and 8-1 in the first period, riding it to a 12-6 victory over the Owen Sound North Stars.

Led by Dhane Smith (4g,4a), Lyle Thompson (2g, 2a), Shayne Jackson (2g,2a), Josh Byrne (2g, 3a), and Ryan Smith (2g, 3a), led the Chiefs to their most dominant game of the series.

Six Nations was able to keep perennial goal scorers like Jackson Webster (1g,1a), and Tannet Buck (1g,2a) to just a goal a piece, while controlling the tempo of the game from the start.

Six Nations wins the best of seven Major Series Lacrosse semi-final 4-0, and now await the winner of the Peterborough Lakers vs. Brooklin Lacrosse Club semi-final, which is led by Brooklin 3-2.

To The Game:

The Chiefs got rolling early, never looking back.  Ryan Smith converted a Josh Byrne pass at 2:46, followed by Shayne Jackson with a blast from the side of the net off a Dhane Smith pass at 3:42.

Dhane Smith then scored back to back. The first he converted a Ryan Smith pass from the outside at 4:48, followed by finishing a Josh Byrne feed at 5:15.

Smith then added his third in a row for a natural hat-trick with a low to low laser off a Ryan Smith pass at 8:25, followed by Lyle Thompson scoring a beauty from in close off a Smith feed at 12:28.

Jackson Webster finally got the North Stars on the board on the power-play off a Xander Derkatz pass at 14:01, but a shorthanded goal from Dhane Smith off a Justin Martin pass in transition at 15:30, kept the.Chiefs plowing forward.  Ryan Smith then added  goal off a Larson Sundown pass at 16:26.to.round out the first period scoring.

Owen Sound replaced Kaleb Martin with Andrew Kidd in net.

Second Period:

The North Stars got their offense rolling in the second period with Mitch Gustavsen scoring unassisted at 3:37, followed by Tanner Buck finishing a Jamie Hunt feed at 8:22.

The Chiefs came back with a pair of their own.  Shayne Jackson converted a Dhane Smith pass at 10:20, followed by Josh Byrne finishing a cross crease pass from Jackson shorthanded at 11:37.

Third Period:

Six Nations iced this game early in third with a pair of goals to open the period.  Lyle Thompson scored off a Josh Byrne pass at 0:22 seconds, followed by Byrne himself converting a Lyle Thompson pass at 2:09.

The North Stars didn’t quit.  Tyler Halls score in transition off a Tanner Buck pass at 5:14, followed by Hayden Summers-Thompson with a good individual effort off a Tanner Buck pass at 8:16.  Braydon Mayea then converted a Connor Nock pass at 15:14.  However, it was way too little, way too late.

Final score, Six Nations 12 Owen Sound 6.
