With a masterful game plan, the Las Vegas Desert Dogs pulled off a huge upset over the Colorado Mammoth. The Desert Dogs fired on all cylinders, especially in the second quarter. Scoring five straight goals, they put this Colorado team in a hole, leaving the Mammoth with a lot of catching up to do. Things didn’t pan out well for Colorado, as they made nine trips to the penalty box. This game was a good momentum builder for the Desert Dogs and with seven games left on the schedule there is still a lot of lacrosse to be played and playoff hopes are not yet out of the realm of possibility. However, they have a tough, physical Halifax Thunderbirds team coming to their house in Week 14. Will The Desert Dogs be ready to answer the challenge? We’ll have to wait and see.
Desert Dogs Bring Their A-Game
The Las Vegas Desert Dogs dominated the second quarter. One of the main reasons was Adam Poitras scoring his first NLL career hat trick. Poitras made a nice cut to the net for his first goal, scored his second goal from a distance, and finished by picking up a loose ball in front of the net for the hatty. Jack Hannah and Jonathan Donville did a great job of distributing the ball and finding open teammates. The duo had a combined 10 assists on the night. It’s going to be interesting to see if the Desert Dogs can run it back and bring their A-game for the Thunderbirds, who come to Las Vegas this Sunday.

Back To The Drawing Board For The Mammoth
The Colorado Mammoth got shell-shocked at home, losing 14-7. Other than Will Malcom who put up 2 goals and 4 assists, Colorado had no answer for the Desert Dogs. Additionally, forward Zed Williams left the game with an injury; he has since been placed on the Injured Reserve list. Colorado coaching staff and team are going to have to go back to the drawing board and dial up a game plan for the Calgary Roughnecks, who sit right behind the Mammoth in the standings.
Calgary is also looking to get back to the win column after losing to the Rochester Knighthawks at home. However, they may have new life after acquiring goaltender Nick Rose from the Toronto Rock in a trade this week. This should be a good game between Calgary and Colorado, both teams are jockeying for position in the standings. It’s going to come down to who wants it more this Saturday night.
