Excelsiors Complete Effort Earns Their First Win Of The Year

The Brampton Excelsiors (1-8) visted the Oakville Rock (2-7) in Major Series Lacrosse action Monday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.

The goaltending match-up had Riley Hutchcraft in net for Brampton facing Troy Holowchuk in net for the Rock.

A complete team effort from the Brampton Excelsiors earned them their first win of the season.  They had come ever so close in past games, but for one reason or another they couldn’t finish.  This game saw the Excelsiors get stronger and more confident as the game wore on. 

Tied 2-2 after one period,  the Excelsiors put together a strong second period led by Mike Trilo (3g,0a) and Josh Medeiros (2g,0a) getting out to a 6-5 lead after two.

The third saw the Excelsiors take control.  Finlay Thompson (3g,2a) led the way with a pair of goals en route to a 10-6 Excelsiors victory.

For Oakville, Sam LeClair (2g,2a) led the way, but without Josh Dawick in the lineup, the Rock offense noticeably suffered.

To The Game:

Finlay Thompson opened the scoring off an Eric Ward pass at 3:51, but Carson Moyer answered off a Sam LeClair pass at 6:15.

Jack McAlpine gave Oakville their first lead of the night with a blast off a Gavin Thibeault pass at 9:19, but Mike Triolo answered with an outside blast off a Coltrane Tyson feed at 17:19.

After one period, Brampton 2 Oakville 2.

Second Period:

Sam LeClair gave the Rock the lead on the power-play off a Carson Moyer pass at 0:46 seconds, but three goals from Brampton broke the game open.

Josh Medeiros scored twice in transition followed by Mike Trilo with his second of the game off a James Whiteford feed at 11:21, but Oakville fought back with a pair of their own to tie the game.

Jack Travassos scored from in close off a Carson Moyer pass at 12:27, followed by Luke Dawick converting a Sam LeClair pass at 15:52.

Mike Trilo gave the Excelsiors the lead at the break with a great move from the top of the crease off a Tanner Thompson pass at 17:59.

After two periods, Brampton 6 Oakville 5.

Third Period:

Finlay Thompson opened the third period scoring with a low to low laser off a Coltrane Tyson pass at 0:52 seconds, followed by Nate Ruff on a turnover unassisted at 4:00.

Sam LeClair kept the Rock in the game with a blast off a Gavin Thibeault pass at 7:23.

Finlay Thompson added another power-play goal off a Tyson feed at 12:44, followed by Briley Maxwell finishing a Finlay Thompson pass at 14:05.

Final score, Brampton 10 Oakville 6.
Shots on goal favored Oakville 54-52.
