The Oshawa FireWolves (2-8) visited the Toronto Rock (5-3) in a rematch from game one of the season in which the FireWolves came out on top 8-7.
Emerson Clark had been activated from the Oshawa practice squad to add more muscle to a young FireWolves unit. For Toronto, Owen Hiltz is one of the rookies in the Rock offence that has acclimated early on. With a four-game multi-point streak, he has been perfecting his passing game lately as he’s posted eight assists in those games.
The goaltending match-up had Doug Jamieson in net for the FireWolves facing Troy Holowchuk in net for the Rock.
After almost thirteen minutes of scoreless action the Rock struck paydirt with a pair of late goals in the first quarter. However, a late outside blast from Josh Dawick, put the Rock up by four at the half. Toronto took a 7-3 lead to the dressing room.
The third quarter had a lot of the same qualities of the first quarter with a track meet for the first five minutes before CJ Kirst increased the Rock lead. Emerson Clark scored his first goal since January of 2023 for Oshawa, but Challen Rogers and Chris Boushy replied to increase the lead to 10-4. Dawson Theede scored his second of the game, but the Rock would take a 10-5 lead to the fourth.
Toronto looked to have the game in hand until a pair of Latrell Harris penalties. Dawson Theede took over scoring a pair of goals on the power-play, followed by an even strength goal to bring Oshawa within two goals with six minutes left. Tye Kurtz brought the FireWolves within one with just over five minutes left, setting up a heart-stopping finish.
Oshawa pressed, but Troy Holowchuk was sensational down the stretch, making huge save after huge save. Challen Rogers gave the Rock some breathing room with an empty net goal with 43.5 seconds left . Toronto holds on to a slim 12-10 victory.
