Hoggarth’s Hat-trick Leads Lakers To Victory

The Brampton Excelsiors (3-14) traveled east to face the Peterborough Lakers (12-5) in Major Series Lacrosse action Thursday night at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario.

The goaltending match-up had Connor O’Toole in net for the Excelsiors facing Nick Rose in net for Peterborough.

The first period set the tone for the evening with Connor O’Toole making 12 of 15 saves on a very potent Lakers lineup.  Jacob Janke popped two for the Excelsiors in the first to only trail Peterborough by one at the break.

The back and forth see-saw battle continued in the second with both teams having a turn in the lead.  A strong finish to the period had the Lakers up by one on a strong effort from Thomas Hoggarth in front to give Peterborough a slight advantage heading to the third period.

Brampton pushed hard in the third period, but Nick Rose was up to the challenge.   Rose made 17 saves on 18 shots in the period to keep Peterborough in the lead.  Thomas Hoggarth continued his big night with a pair of goals in the frame to give the Lakers the victory.   Peterborough wins 9-6.

To The Game:

Holden Cattoni got the Lakers on the board first with a blast from the outside off a Taite Cattoni pass at 1:28, but a power-play goal from Jacob Janke with a shot to the glove side of Nick Rose tied the game at 4:10.

Mike Robinson gave the Lakers the lead once again with a low to low laser off a Braedon Saris pass at 7:17, followed by Carter Page with a sidearm snipe off a Johnny Pearson pass in transition at 14:21.

Jacob Janke got his second of the period for the Excelsiors with a low laser off an Eric Ward pass at 16:53.

After one period, Peterborough 3 Brampton 2.

Second Period:

Bowie Horsman tied the game quickly into the second period with a shot from in front off a Jacob Janke feed at 0:57 seconds, followed by Janke himself with his third of the night off an Eric Ward pass 4:09.

Carter Page tied the game for the Lakers with a great individual effort off a Taite Cattoni pass at 9:06, but Eric Ward put Brampton in the lead once again with a blast off a Zach Sunderland pass at 12:02.

Holden Cattoni finished a Justin Sykes pass at 15:01, followed by Thomas Hoggarth from the top of the crease with a rebound ofd a Joe Resetarits shot at 16:57.

After two periods, Peterborough 6 Brampton 5.

Third Period:

Thomas Hoggarth opened the third period scoring with a transition goal off a Dustyn Birkhof pass at 3:57, followed by Braedon Saris with an outside blast off a Joe Resetarits feed shorthanded at 6:49 to open a three goal lead.

Mike Triolo got the Excelsiors within two goals with a shot to the shortside unassisted on the power-play at 11:17, but Thomas Hoggarth’s third of the evening caught the top corner off a Carter Page feed at 14:04.

Final score, Peterborough 9 Brampton 6.
Shots on goal favored the Lakers 44-40.The
