The Maple Ridge Burrards rode a four-goal performance from Marcus Klarich to a 9-5 win over the New Westminster Salmonbellies on Tuesday night in Western Lacrosse Association action.
Klarich added two assists for a six-point night. Brayden Laity was a playmaker with three assists, while Payton Cormier finished with a goal and two assists. In total, the Burrards had six different goal scorers.
Between the pipes, Jack Kask and Brandon Humphrey split the time in net, combining to make 40 saves on 45 shots.
Noah Armitage led the way for the Salmonbellies with a hat trick and an assist for four points. Will MacKay had three assists, while Lukas Nielsen and Owen Rahn each had a goal and an assist.
Ashton LeClair got the start in goal for New Westminster and stopped 29 of 38 shots in the loss.
First Period
Maple Ridge controlled the opening period despite a close shot count.
Ries Bower opened the scoring just 1:35 into the game before Klarich doubled the lead with a shorthanded marker at 15:46, with assists from Laity and Rhys Blake.
The Salmonbellies cut the deficit to one when Rahn scored with 1:26 remaining in the period.
The Burrards answered quickly as Drew Andre restored the two-goal cushion with just 13 seconds left in the frame, giving Maple Ridge a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Second Period
The Burrards took control with another dominant period.
Jon Phillips scored a shorthanded goal just 2:18 into the second before Cormier made it 5-1 a little more than two minutes later.
Klarich added his second goal of the night midway through the period, and Garret Winter scored on the power play at 17:18 to stretch Maple Ridge’s lead to 7-1.
Armitage responded 50 seconds later for New Westminster, but the Salmonbellies still faced a five-goal deficit heading into the third.
Third Period
Klarich put the game out of reach early in the third period.
He scored just 1:05 into the period before completing his four-goal performance with a power-play marker at 4:53 to give the Burrards a commanding 9-2 advantage.
The Salmonbellies mounted a late push with three unanswered goals. Nielsen scored on the power play before Armitage added a power-play marker and an even-strength goal 26 seconds apart to complete his hat trick.
Tempers flared late in the game. Klarich was assessed a roughing major at 14:16. Less than two minutes later, Dalton Lupul and Carter Linkletter were each given roughing majors and misconducts.
Once the dust settled, the Burrards walked away with a 9-5 win.
