he Cobourg Kodiaks (1-3) made the trip west to face the Brampton Excelsiors (0-4) in Major Series Lacrosse action Thursday night at the Memorial Arena in Brampton, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Laine Hruska in net for the Kodiaks facing Connor O’Toole in net for Brampton.
Another defensive struggle saw the Cobourg Kodiaks narrowly defeat the Brampton Excelsiors 6-5. Brock Haley led the way for Cobourg with a hat-trick, while Amos Whitcomb’s pair kept the Excelsiors close.
The third period saw Brampton take control of the game. Josh Medeiros and Bowie Horseman scored to bring the Excelsiors within one, but that was as close they would get. Both teams pressed down the stretch, but Connor O’Toole and Jackson Brown held strong the rest of the way. Cobourg holds on for a 6-5 victory.
To The Game:
Nick Ellerton opened the scoring with a blast off a Matt Marinier pass at 4:14, followed by Brock Haley with a sidearm howitzer from the outside off a Zach Thompson pass at 10:06.
On the power-play, Amos Whitcomb got the Excelsiors on the board off a Bowie Horseman feed at 19:18.
After one period, Cobourg 2 Brampton 1.
Second Period:
Cobourg opened the second period scoring increasing their lead with a bounced shot from Zach Thompson off an Doug Utting pass at 4:45, followed by Brock Haley with his second of the game off a Jake Harrington pass at 9:39.
Amos Whitcomb got Brampton back on the board in transition off a Josh Medeiros pass at 10:11, but Holden Patterson scored just 0:28 seconds later to restore the three goal lead.
Jordan Medeiros got one back for the Excelsiors in transition off a Ben Baker pass at 18:38, but a power-play goal from Brock Haley at 19:30 restored the three goal lead.
After two periods, Cobourg 6 Brampton 3.

Third Period:
Josh Medeiros got the Excelsiors on the board quickly in the third with an unassisted transition marker at 1:43, followed by a Bowie Horseman power-play goal off a Seth Van Schepen pass at 10:10 to bring the game within one.
The action went end to end for the rest of the period with both goalies locking it down for their respective teams.
Final score, Cobourg 6 Brampton 5.
