The Peterborough Lakers (6-1) visited the Brampton Excelsiors (0-5) in Major Series Lacrosse action at the Memorial Arena in Brampton, Ontario Thursday night.
The goaltending match-up had Drew Hutchison in net for the Lakers facing Riley Hutchcraft in net for the Excelsiors.
Special teams had much to do with the result in this game. Brampton’s power-play, which went 4 for 9, staked them to an early 3-0 lead. Peterborough’s power-play (2 for 5) came through late to tie the game, then win the game in overtime.
While this was the most complete game that Brampton had put together this season, the need to play sixty full minutes was apparent as the Lakers made their comeback later in the third period. Joe Resetarits (3g,1a) led Peterborough with two goals in the third, and the game winner in overtime.
Finlay Thompson (2g 5a), and Coltrane Tyson (2g,0a) led the way for Brampton. Again, the Excelsiors transition game kept their opponent off-balance, but just wasn’t able to get over the hump in this one. Peterborough edges the Excelsiors 11-10 in overtime.
To The Game:
The Brampton Excelsiors got on the board when Coltrane Tyson converted a Finlay Thompson pass on the power-play at 0:51 seconds, followed by Tanner Thompson blasting a James Whiteford feed also on the power-play at 2:34. Briley Maxwell added the third consecutive man-up marker finishing a Tanner Thompson pass from in close at 9:53.
The Lakers finally got on the board when Carter Page found the back of the net with a sidearm snipe off a Taite Cattoni pass at 15:17.
After one period, Brampton 3 Peterborough 1.

Second Periods:
Eric Ward increased the Excelsiors lead to open the second period on a beautiful individual effort at 3:38, but three goals in 3:24 from Peterborough knotted the game at four each.
Brad McCulley converted a Matt Gilray pass from the outside at 10:41, followed by Gilray himself scoring in transition off a Dustyn Birkhof pass at 12:08. Birkhof then added one of his own in transition unassisted at 15:05.
The Excelsiors transition game took over at this point. Dante Brown finished a Josh Medeiros pass at 14:18, followed by Medeiros himself potting a Finlay Thompson pass from mid-range at 17:46.
Finlay Thompson added another goal in transition at 18:37, but a laser from Austin Hasen off a Holden Cattoni pass at 19:16 narrowed the Brampton lead to two at the break.
After two periods, Brampton 7 Peterborough 5.

Third Period:
Coltrane Tyson increased the Excelsiors lead on the power-play with a low to low shot off a Finlay Thompson pass at 1:42, but again the Lakers came back to tie the game with three quick goals.
Taite Cattoni scored off a Mike Robinson pass from in close at 6:36, followed by Joe Resetarits with a high to high blast off a Cam Milligan feed at 7:52. Austin Hasen’s second of the game then brought the game even at 10:34.
Finlay Thompson gave Brampton the lead once more scoring unassisted at 11:01, but a power-play goal from Resetarits tied the game once more at 11:42.
Neither team could solve Hutchison or Hutchcraft in their respective nets the rest of the way, sending this game to overtime.
After regulation, Peterborough 10 Brampton 10.
Overtime:
After just over three minutes of end to end action, an outside blast from Joe Resetarits on the power-play beat Riley Hutchcraft to the far corner, giving the Lakers the win at 3:42.
Final score, Peterborough 11 Brampton 10.
The Three Stars:

2. Finlay Thompson
