Lakers Withstand Late North Stars Comeback Bid

The Owen Sound North Stars (4-7) traveled east to face the Peterborough Lakers (8-4) in Major Series Lacrosse action at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario.

The goaltending match-up had Andrew Kidd in net for the North Stars facing Nick Rose in net for Peterborough.

Owen Sound showed how pesky a bunch they could be.  Every time Peterborough thought they had the game in hand, the North Stars would mount a comeback.  Up 8-4 in the third, the North Stars scored three of the next four to tighten the game down the stretch, but the Lakers were able to hold on for the 9-7 victory.

Nick Rose made 30 saves, while his counterpart Andrew Kidd made an astounding 61 saves in the game.

To The Game:

The Lakers got off to a great start in this game jumping out to a three goal lead just over half a period in.  Braedon Saris scored the first two for Peterborough, followed by an outside blast from Brad McCulley off a Holden Cattoni pass at 10:14.

Owen Sound got to work with Jackson Webster answering with a pair of late goals to bring the game within one.

After one period, Peterborough 3 Owen Sound 2.

Second Period:

Adam Thistlewaite opened the second period scoring for Peterborough with a bounced shot off a Joe Resetarits pass at 2:03, followed by Resetarits himself finishing a Dylan Hutchison feed with a laser to the corner at 11:57.

Xander Derkatz got one back for Owen Sound off a Josh Rosa pass at 14:12, but Holden Cattoni ripped a howitzer from the outside off a Joe Resetarits pass on the power-play at 17:37.

Jackson Webster added his third of the night for the North Stars to bring them within two at the break.

After two periods, Peterborough 6 Owen Sound 4.

Salmonbellies

Third Period:

Carter Page increased the Lakers lead with a shorthanded goal off a Braedon Saris pass at 2:36, followed by Joe Resetarits with his second of the game blasting a Holden Cattoni feed at 5:47.

Jeremy Searle and Josh Rosa brought Owen Sound within two once again with 5:17 left to play, but a goal from Holden Cattoni all but sealed the deal with 1:30 remaining.

Xander Derkatz added one more for the North Stars with 0:16 left, on the power-play, but that was as close as they would get.

Final score, Peterborough 9 Owen Sound 7.
Shots on goal favored the Lakers 70-37.
