MacLeod Scores In OT To Give Brooklin Series Lead

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (3-2) took on the Peterborough Lakers (2-3) in game five of the best of seven Major Series Lacrosse semi-final at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario Thursday night.

The goaltending match-up had Zach Higgins in net for Brooklin facing Nick Rose in net for Peterborough.

The game started as a defensive struggle with the teams tied 1-1 after one period.  Brooklin took over in the second period getting out to a 6-2 lead, led by a pair of goals from Will MacLeod.   Peterborough tightened it up with two late goals in the last minute of the frame to go to break with the momentum.

Brooklin increased the lead to three with a shorthanded goal from Connor Kearnan, but a pair of power-play goals from Braedon Saris, as well as a pinpoint shot from Holden Cattoni tied the game.  The teams went back and forth for more than half the period without any scoring, sending the game to overtime.

In overtime, after just over seven minutes of breath-taking action, Will MacLeod was able to pick the corner on a screenshot to give Brooklin the 8-7 win, and the 3-2 series lead.

To The Game:

Holden Cattoni opened the scoring for the Lakers with a blast off a Mike Robinson pass at 8:22, but Ryan Barnable replied with a low to low shot off a Sean Westley pass at 15:10.

After one period, Peterborough 1 Brooklin 1.

Second Period:

The second period saw Brooklin’s offense get organized.  Will MacLeod converted a Connor Kearnan pass at 2:58, followed by Ryan Barnable with his second of the game off a Sean Westley feed at 3:57.  Connor Kearnan then joined the scoring with a low laser to the corner off a Taggert Clark pass at 4:14.

Daniel Clark got the Lakers on the board with a quick stick off a Joe Resetarits pass at 8:41, but Barnable’s third of the night caught the corner off a Sean Westley pass at 17:14.  Will MacLeod then scored on the power-play off a Connor Kearnan pass at 19:18 to increase the lead to 6-2.

The Lakers mounted a late comeback scoring twice in 0:23 seconds to tighten the game at the break.  Joe Resetarits hit a shot from the side of the net at 19:36, followed by Thomas Hoggarth hitting a buzzer beater at 19:59.

After two periods, Brooklin 6 Peterborough 4.

McIntosh

Third Period:

Connor Kearnan increased the Brooklin lead with a shorthanded goal to open the period off a Holden Garlent pass at 5:14, but Peterborough would storm back.

Braedon Saris scored back to back power-play goals .  The first was off a Holden Cattoni pass at 5:51, followed by a sidearm snipe off a Joe Resetarits feed at 7:27.  Holden Cattoni then tied the game with a blast from the outside off a Brad McCulley pass at 8:20.

After regulation, Peterborough 7 Brooklin 7.

Overtime:

After more than seven breath-taking minutes, Will MacLeod found the corner off a Taggert Clark feed at 7:17 to give Brooklin the victory.

Final score, Brooklin 8 Peterborough 7.

  • Shots on goal favored Peterborough 62-47.
  • Faceoffs were won by Brooklin 10-7.
  • Peterborough went 2 for 2 on the power-play, while Brooklin went 1 for 3.
