Maple Ridge Burrards Remain Undefeated After Downing Timbermen

The Maple Ridge Burrards remain undefeated after defeating the Nanaimo Timbermen 13-8 in WLA action on Saturday night.

The win improves Maple Ridge’s record to 3-0, while the Timbermen move into a three-way tie for second place at 2-1 alongside the Coquitlam Adanacs and Victoria Shamrocks.

The Burrards were led by Tyler Pace, who scored seven goals and added one assist for eight points. Marcus Klarich and Payton Cormier each chipped in three goals and four assists.

In goal for Maple Ridge, Jack Kask stopped 41 of 49 shots to earn the victory.

Noah Manning led the Timbermen offensively with five assists, while Andrew Bowman recorded a goal and two assists, and Matt Boas finished with two goals and one assist.

First Period

Nanaimo opened the scoring when Nolan Ross found Caelan Mander at the 13:00 mark.

However, Maple Ridge responded with a three-goal run. Pace tied the game at 13:29 before Cormier scored at 16:59 to give the Burrards a 2-1 lead.

Cormier rounded out the run by finishing a play set up by Calum Munro with 39 seconds remaining in the period.

Boas scored a buzzer-beater for Nanaimo as the Timbermen trailed 3-2 at the end of the first.

Second Period

Nanaimo tied the game 1:43 into the second period on a power-play goal from Jaxon Dillon. Colton Lidstone then set up Jeremy Wudrick for a shorthanded marker at 2:59 as the Timbermen took a 4-3 lead.

However, Maple Ridge answered with a five-goal run, with all five goals coming from Pace.

Pace first scored unassisted at 4:10 to tie the game. He then found the back of the net at 10:21 and 11:07, with Klarich assisting on both goals to make it 6-4.

Pace added unassisted goals at 14:13 and 15:18, with Cormier picking up an assist on the latter tally.

The Timbermen got back on the board at 16:21 when Logan Schmidt scored off an assist from Manning.

Cormier responded just 24 seconds later, scoring at 16:45 to put the Burrards ahead 9-5.

Bowman rounded out the second-period scoring with a power-play goal with 1:29 remaining as Nanaimo trailed 9-6 heading into the third.

Third Period

Schmidt brought the Timbermen within two goals early in the third period, but Klarich and Pace combined for a four-goal run that put the game out of reach.

Klarich scored at 4:22 and again 28 seconds later, with Cormier assisting on both goals.

Pace then scored unassisted at 10:28 to make it 12-7.

Klarich completed his hat trick for the period at 11:20 off an assist from Dagan Carlson as Maple Ridge extended its lead to 13-7.

Boas rounded out the scoring at 11:58 as the Timbermen fell 13-8.
