Mike Triolo had four goals, including a natural hat trick, as the Saskatchewan Rush downed the San Diego Seals 12-8 on Saturday night at Pechanga Arena.

Saskatchewan completely dominated the first half, jumping out to a 7-0 lead. San Diego made a late charge in the second half, outscoring Saskatchewan 8-5, but the Rush were able to hold them off.

Rookie goaltender Thomas Kiazyk made his second start in goal, with Frank Scigliano placed on the short-term holdout list due to the birth of his first child. Kiazyk pitched a shutout in the first half and stopped 36 of 44 shots to earn the win.

In addition to struggling in the first half, San Diego ran into penalty trouble. They allowed Saskatchewan 10 power play opportunities and accumulated 26 penalty minutes.

The win moves Saskatchewan to 6-2, alone in second place in the standings, while San Diego falls to 3-5 and 12th place.

Triolo With The Hat Trick

Mike Triolo used his size to give Saskatchewan a 3-0 lead. He scored 2:14 into the game and added another at 4:04. Triolo completed the natural hat trick 31 seconds later to make it 3-0.

Zach Manns rounded out the first-quarter scoring, netting a power-play marker at 5:37 to give Saskatchewan a 4-0 lead.

After Manns’ goal, Chris Origlieri was pulled in favor of Mike Poulin in goal for the Seals.

Seal Shut Out Of The First Half

San Diego’s troubles continued as they still could not find the back of the net. Even when they had opportunities, Kiazyk shut the door on them.

The Rush opened the scoring with Austin Shanks converting on the power play at 1:11. Rookie Levi Anderson followed that up at 3:03 to make it 6-0.

That ended the night for Poulin. He allowed two goals on 12 shots, and the Seals put Origlieri back in for the remainder of the game.

Robert Church rounded out the scoring with 2:41 left, as the Rush held a 7-0 lead at the half.

Seal Show Signs Of Life

The San Diego Seals started to show signs of life in the third quarter. Ryan Benesch opened the scoring 55 seconds into the quarter, starting a three-goal run.

Zach Currier added to the tally at 2:13, followed by Ben McIntosh 1:04 later, as the Seals narrowed the gap to 7-3.

Manns halted some of that momentum. He found the back of the net for the Rush at 4:40.

However, the Seals answered back with a pair of goals. McIntosh potted his second at 5:39, and Rob Hellyer found the back of the net at 7:30 to make the score 8-5.

Saskatchewan rounded out the scoring with Ryan Keenan beating Origlieri at 10:15 on the power play, as the Rush led 9-5 heading into the final frame.

Rush Cruise to Victory

Saskatchewan would not allow San Diego to gain any more momentum in the fourth quarter. Every time San Diego scored, the Rush had an answer.

Church opened the scoring at 1:23 to give Saskatchewan a five-goal cushion. Currier replied for the Seals at 3:13.

The Rush jumped back on the power play, and Triolo scored his fourth of the game at 7:10. Hellyer then responded with a goal of his own 48 seconds later to make it an 11-7 game.

Anderson put one in the back of the net for Saskatchewan with 2:37 left, and Tre Leclaire rounded out the scoring with 51 seconds remaining to make the final 12-8.
