Minto Cup Day 2: St. Catharines, Victoria drop to 0-2

The Alberta teams continued to dominate after Day 2 at the 2026 Minto Cup in Calgary.

The Calgary Mountaineers defeated the St. Catharines Athletics 14-12, while the Okotoks Raiders took down the Victoria Shamrocks 5-2.

Surprisingly, Victoria and St. Catharines dropped to 0-2, with both teams meeting Tuesday night. The loser will be eliminated from the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Raiders and Mounties will face off Tuesday night as well, with the winner taking first place in the standings.

Calgary Mountaineers 14, St. Catharines Athletics 12

St. Catharines got off to a quick start, taking a 7-5 lead after the first period.

Calgary replied in the second period with a five-goal run to take a 10-7 lead. The Athletics got two goals back late in the period as St. Catharines trailed 10-9 heading into the final frame.

St. Catharines got within one, 11-10, early in the third period, but Calgary scored twice to go up by three.

Reif Steenhuis scored for the Athletics at 8:36 to narrow Calgary’s lead to two. Ben McLean replied for Calgary just over two minutes later to give the Mounties a 14-11 lead.

Jameson Bucktooth scored with 2:07 left, but St. Catharines couldn’t come back as Calgary took a 14-12 win.

Kayden Yeaman led the Mounties with three goals and three assists for six points. Ryan McDonald also had a hat trick and two assists. Dexter Hannigan had two goals and three assists, while Caiden Moon had two goals and an assist and Ben McLean had a goal and two assists.

Tommy St. Louis got the start for the Mounties and stopped 38 of 50 shots for the win.

For the Athletics, Bucktooth led the way with two goals and three assists, while Arrow Booth had a hat trick. Zackary Toll and Jaden Kennedy added a goal and two assists each.

Ty Wilson played 54:59 in goal for St. Catharines and stopped 37 of 51 shots. Mason Robertson played 5:01 and stopped all five shots he faced.

Okotoks Raiders 5, Victoria Shamrocks 2

The Okotoks Raiders walked away with a 5-2 win over Victoria in a low-scoring affair in the late game Monday.

Cole Morris opened the scoring for the Raiders with 9:01 on the clock. Jett Klassen replied for Victoria to tie the game.

However, Luke McNamara gave the Raiders a 2-1 lead after the first period.

Despite running into penalty trouble early in the second period, Ryan Lowe scored for Victoria with 6:23 on the clock to tie the game 2-2.

Shamrocks goaltender Greyson Beggs stopped all 13 shots he faced in the second period to keep the game tied heading into the third.

The Raiders’ goaltender, Nathan Whittom, shut down the Shamrocks, making all 12 saves in the third period.

Okotoks got goals from Cash Frijters, McNamara and Dylan Belliveau to take a 5-2 win in Day 2 of the Minto Cup.
