NEW YORK — New York City FC announced Tuesday that the Club has loaned forward Julián Fernández to Argentine side CA Rosario Central through December 2026, with an option to buy.
The move provides Fernández with an opportunity for increased playing time while continuing his development in a highly competitive environment. Rosario Central is currently competing in the CONMEBOL Libertadores, offering the 21-year-old forward valuable experience at the continental level.
“This loan provides Julián with an important opportunity for increased playing time in a competitive environment,” said Sporting Director Todd Dunivant. “With Rosario Central competing in the CONMEBOL Libertadores, this move supports his continued development and aligns with Julián’s desire to be closer to home. We believe this is a positive step for both the player and the Club.”
Fernández featured regularly for New York City FC during the 2025 season, making 41 appearances across all competitions. He recorded three goals and five assists during regular season play, contributing depth and versatility to the Club’s attacking options.
Since joining NYCFC in August 2023, Fernández has totaled 77 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists. The Argentine forward showed steady growth during his time with the ‘Boys in Blue,’ often impacting matches with his work rate, technical ability, and attacking movement.
The loan represents a strategic move for both player and club, allowing Fernández to gain consistent minutes in his home country while NYCFC maintains flexibility through the option to buy clause. For Rosario Central, the addition of Fernández strengthens their attacking depth as they compete domestically and in continental play.
New York City FC will continue to monitor Fernández’s progress throughout the loan period as he takes the next step in his professional career.
