The New York City Football Club laid an egg in their first trip to Pittsburgh as they were defeated by the Riverhounds 1-0 after a late second half goal in stoppage time. NYCFC, which opted to start Mounsef Bakrar over Alonso Martinez and Tomas Romero over Matt Freese managed just 4 shots on goal against a USL club that lost 3 of it’s last four.
A Strahinja Tanasijevic Red Card at the 78th minute forced NYCFC to play with only 10 men after he fouled Bradley Sample and was sent off. Then at the 6th minute into stoppage time a Beto Ydrach header sealed the 1-0 final with just seconds left in the match.
Our Post Match Press Conference with head coach Pascal Jansen was the shortest I think I’ve ever seen in 5 years covering the team, just 3 minutes. Link is below if you have interest.
I’m also including pics from Riverhounds sportswriter and photographers Ed Quinn and Bill Aikins since they were there first hand to witness the Pidgeon embarrassment. As for NYCFC, their next match is set for Saturday night against an FC Montreal team with just 3 points on the season.
