Owen Sound Outlasts The Rock With A Strong Third Period

The Owen Sound North Stars (2-2) traveled to Oakville to face the Rock (0-3) in Major Series Lacrosse action Monday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.

The goaltending match-up had Andrew Kidd in net for the North Stars facing Troy Holowchuk in net for the Rock.

Although the Oakville Rock started out strong, the Owen Sound North Stars finished stronger.  In the final two periods the North Stars outscored the Rock 9-4.  Led by Tanner Buck (2g,1a) and Mitch Wilde (2g,1a), Owen Sound went on a four run in the second period, and a three goal run in the third.  Andrew Kidd was stellar in the North Stars net making 54 saves on the night.

Oakville put together a strong effort for two periods led by Ty English (2g,1a) and Kaden Brennan (2g,0a).  However, the third period saw the North Stars take control of the play.  Owen Sound came away with the 11-8 victory.

To The Game:

The Rock got rolling early when Ty English converted a Brooks English pass at 0:33 seconds, but Tanner Buck evened the game blasting a Xander Derkatz pass at 1:43.

Ty English got his second of the game off a Zack Kearney pass in transition 0:12 seconds later, but Mitch Gustavsen evened the game with a shot from in close off an Austin Blumbergs pass at 5:41.

Sam LeClair put the Rock in front yet again with an outside laser off a Jack McAlpine pass at 11:58, followed by Luke Robinson with a low to low shot off a Josh Dawick pass at 15:57.

After one period, Oakville 4 Owen Sound 2.

Second Period:

Kaden Brennan opened the second period scoring for the Rock with a high to low bounced shot unassisted at 3:51, but Jackson Webster answered for Owen Sound with a sidearm snipe to the corner off a Tanner Buck pass at 4:26.

Mitch Wilde added a shorthanded goal off an Austin Blumbergs pass at 6:34, followed by another shorthanded marker from Dylan Watson to tie the game at 8:36.

Tanner Buck put the North Stars in the lead with a blast to the corner off a Xander Derkatz pass at 10:58, but Josh Dawick’s low to low shot found the far corner at 11:29.

Sam LeClair put Oakville back in the lead with an outside shot off a Phil Mazzuca pass in transition at 11:43, but Mitch Wilde’s second of the game tied the game once again unassisted at 16:51.

After two periods, Owen Sound 7 Oakville 7.

Third Period:

Owen Sound’s Jeremy Searle opened the third period scoring with a laser to the top corner off a Connor Nock feed at 2:55, but Kaden Brennan tied the game off a Chris Weier pass in transition at 5:12.

The North Stars mounted another attack.  Jake McNabb fired a sidearm snipe off a Dylan Watson pass at 12:30, followed by Isiah Moran-Weekes converting a Jackson Webster pass at 17:40.  Cole Teeple added an empty net goal to seal the deal.

Final score, Owen Sound 11 Oakville 8.

Shots on goal, Oakville 62 Owen Sound 47.
