Peterborough Edges Six Nations In A Defensive Struggle Of Two Powerhouses

The Six Nations Chiefs (1-1) traveled east to face the Peterborough Lakers (2-0) in Thursday night Major Series Lacrosse action at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario.

The goaltending match-up had Nick Rose in net for Peterborough facing Doug Jamieson in net for the Chiefs.

A defensive struggle the entire way saw the Peterborough Lakers edge out the Six Nations Chiefs 7-6 Thursday evening.  Both Nick Rose and Doug Jamieson were outstanding in their respective nets in this game, with both making 38 saves.

Mike Robinson and Holden Cattoni led the way for the Lakers with a pair of goals each, while Six Nations had six individual scorers in the game.

To The Game:

Ryan Smith opened the scoring for Six Nations converting a Cody Jamieson pass while shorthanded at 6:02, but Brad McCulley answered with a shorty of his own off a Koleton Marquis feed at 4:14. 

Taite Cattoni gave the Lakers the lead near the end of the period with an unassisted blast at 18:47.

After one period, Peterborough 2 Six Nations 1.

Second Period:

Dawson Theede opened the second period scoring with a shortside blast off a Randy Staats pass tying the game at 3:29, but Koleton Marquis answered with a sidearm snipe off a Thomas Hoggarth feed at 5:03 to regain the Lakers lead.

Lyle Thompson then scored on a great individual effort off a Ryan Smith pass at 8:03, followed by Randy Staats scoring in transition off a Brad Kri feed on the power-play 10:06.

Mike Robinson tied the game once again for Peterborough off a Thomas Hoggarth pass at 14:31, but a buzzer beater with 0:01 seconds left in the period from Tyson Bell had the Chiefs up after two.

After two periods, Six Nations 5 Peterborough 4.

Langley

Third Period:

Holden Cattoni tied the game for Peterborough with a howitzer from the outside off a Koleton Marquis feed at 0:59, but Davin Bomberry beat Nick Rose with a low to low shot off a Randy Staats pass at 6:20 restoring the Chiefs slim lead.

Mike Robinson added his second of the game on the power-play off a Holden Cattoni pass at 10:17 to tie the game, followed by Cattoni himself with a power-play goal to take the lead at 11:26.

The action was frantic for the remaining 8:34, but both goalies were superb, not allowing a goal.

Final score, Peterborough 7 Six Nations 6.
