Riverhounds Beat Las Vegas 1-0 At Home

Fresh off a 2–1 victory over Hartford, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC aimed to build on their momentum as they welcomed Las Vegas to Highmark Stadium. The opening half unfolded cautiously, with both sides navigating a typical feeling-out period.

In the early stages, Junior Etou earned a free kick on the left flank, though Las Vegas defended the ensuing set piece effectively. Las Vegas posed a threat in the 8th minute, but the attempt was nullified by an offside call. The Riverhounds responded with a corner in the 9th minute, followed by a shot in the 11th that was turned away by the Hartford goalkeeper.

A collision in the box in the 12th minute left defender Ahl down momentarily, but play resumed with another Riverhounds corner conceded in the 16th. Las Vegas made their first substitution in the 18th minute, and Beto tested the keeper with a shot in the 22nd.

The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Pittsburgh was awarded a penalty. Augi Williams stepped up and delivered a powerful strike to the bottom right corner—despite the keeper guessing correctly, the shot had too much pace to stop, giving the Hounds a 1–0 lead.

Pittsburgh continued to press, forcing another save in the 35th minute. Hartford responded with a chance of their own in the 37th, but the Riverhounds keeper was equal to the task, preserving the lead heading into halftime.

The second half commenced with immediate action, as Bradley Sample struck the woodwork with a left-footed effort from the center of the box—an early warning shot from the Riverhounds. Hartford responded with a long throw-in in the 56th minute, which was effectively cleared by the Hounds defense.

Las Vegas nearly found a breakthrough in the 58th minute when Giorgio Probo unleashed a speculative right-footed shot from over 40 yards out on the right wing. The attempt, assisted by Rory O’Driscoll, sailed high and wide to the left. Moments later, Augustine Williams rose for a header from the center of the box but missed the target to the left.

In the 68th minute, Las Vegas midfielder Gennaro Nigro tested Jacob Randolph with a powerful left-footed strike from outside the box. Randolph reacted well, making a clean save in the top center of the goal to preserve the lead. Las Vegas made a pair of substitutions in the 70th minute, with Pittsburgh responding in kind two minutes later. More subs for the Hounds in the 80th minute. In the 86th minute, Las Vegas midfielder Giorgio Probo fired a right-footed shot from the right side of the box, but it was well handled by Riverhounds goalkeeper Jacob Randolph. Moments later, Pittsburgh countered with a golden opportunity of their own, Augi Williams broke free for a one-on-one with the keeper, but his attempt drifted wide to the right, narrowly missing the chance to double the lead. The Hounds maintained their composure through the 4 minutes of stoppage time and secured the victory. The Hounds next match is at Miami as they continue their push to the playoffs.
