The Riverhounds kicked off tonight in Colorado, facing the Colorado Switchbacks FC. Things got off to fast pace in the thin air at Weidner Field Saturday night. The switchbacks got on the score sheet early on a composed header by Switchback Captain Matt Mahoney in the 12th minute. The Riverhounds struggled tactically to break down the Switchback defense in the first half and the Switchbacks took up residence in the Riverhounds end with 5-1 on shots and 57% to 43% in possession going the Switchbacks way in the first half.

The second half opened up with much of the same that transpired in the first with the Switchbacks still attacking on their front foot and stifling any opportunities for the Riverhounds to get on the scoreboard. Throughout the game, the Switchbacks took advantage their dominance of possession, creating quality chances and more shots. On the Riverhounds side, no real quality chances were created, which once again produced a goose egg on the scoreboard.

Credit to Riverhounds goalkeeper Eric Dick for keeping the match score manageable. Ending stats showed possession tighten up in second half with a 53% to 47% and 9 to 6 in shots all in favor of the Switchbacks.

The Riverhounds will be back in action Wednesday, May 21st, 7:30 pm for their round of 16 Lamar Hunt U.S. open Cup game against the Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park.
