Flying High off their win Tuesday against the Columbus crew 2 in the U.S. open cup, the Riverhounds looked to continue their winning ways on the road against Loudoun United FC at Segra Field. On a seemingly slow pitch Loudoun United FC got the first goal off of a quick transition in the 33rd minute via header from Wesley Leggett. Riverhounds struggled to get numbers forward in the first half. The second half saw early opportunities for Loudoun United FC that were thwarted by the Riverhounds. A more aggressive strategy by committing more numbers forward paid off for the Riverhounds when a strike from Jorge Garcia in the 71st minute tied things up. Already on a yellow card, Luke Biasi committed a blatant foul in the 76th minute and took the “longest walk in Soccer” to the locker room on a red card. Looming off the red card, Loudoun United FC got the go-ahead goal in the 81st minute on a rifle shot by Aboukoura finding the back of the net. The five minutes of stoppage time wasn’t enough for the Riverhounds to get the equalizer and Loudoun United FC held on to get the 2-1 win. The Riverhounds are back on the road next week when they face Detroit City FC from Keyworth Stadium Saturday April 26 at 4:00pm.
