The Toronto Rock (2-5) traveled west to face the Calgary Roughnecks (3-3) at the Scotiabank Saddledome Friday night.
The Rock finally got in the win column last week, beating the Saskatchewan Rush 11-8. Tom Schreiber and TD Ierlan returned to the lineup, while Mark Matthews was put on the IR for the rest of the season. Latrell Harris was put on the active roster prior to game time as well.
The Roughnecks have been an exciting team to watch thus far this season. Even though Dane Dobbie had been out of the lineup recently, Curtis Dickson, Jesse King, Tyler Pace and Tanner Cook have picked up the pace for Calgary. Dobbie is back for this game.
The goaltending match-up had Nick Rose in net for the Rock facing Cam MacLeod in net for the Roughnecks.
The Rock got rolling early getting out to a 2-0 lead early. Although Jesse King got one back on the power-play, Toronto controlled the flow of the game most of the first half. Tom Schreiber left his mark with a three goals in the half, as well as Chris Boushy with a pair. Nick Rose continued to play well, stoning the Roughnecks offense all through the half. The Rock led 8-3 at the half.
The second half was more of the same. The Rock kept up the intensity, not letting Calgary’s offense get on track. The Rock defense suffocated Calgary, getting in shooting and passing lanes all night. Calgary made a push in the fourth quarter scoring three in a row, but the Rock stopped the mini run, continuing control of the game. Toronto wins 14-9.
