The Maple Ridge Burrards and Victoria Shamrocks played to a 7-7 tie on Friday night in WLA action, ending Victoria’s four-game winning streak.

Maple Ridge held a 5-2 lead after the first period, but Victoria battled back to take a 7-6 lead in the third. A goal by Marcus Klarich with 11:58 left to play tied the game and sent it to overtime. Five minutes of extra time solved nothing, and the game ended in a draw.

Klarich led the Burrards with two goals and four assists for six points. Dylan McIntosh recorded a hat trick and added two assists. Garret Winter also scored twice for Maple Ridge. Brandon Humphrey had an outstanding night in goal, stopping 57 of 64 shots.

For Victoria, Marshal King led the way with a hat trick and an assist, while Zach Manns had three assists. Chris Origlieri made 44 saves on 51 shots in net. In an interesting note, although he didn’t see any playing time, Angus Snow dressed as the backup goalie for the Shamrocks instead of Cam Dunkerley.

The tie keeps Victoria in first place with a record of 4-0-1. New Westminster remains just behind at 4-0 with one game in hand.

Despite a 1-2-2 record, Maple Ridge could play a major spoiler role near the top of the standings. They have a goal differential of just minus-seven, indicating their losses have been close.

Maple Ridge Jumps Out to a Big Lead

The Burrards made a statement early that they would not be pushed around by the Shamrocks. Klarich opened the scoring 2:39 into the game.

Marshal King replied off a feed from Manns at 3:22 to tie it up.

The Burrards began to pull away with a two-goal run. Garret Winter scored on the power play at 10:13, followed by McIntosh at 16:21.

Elijah Gash brought Victoria back within one with an unassisted power-play goal at 18:58.

However, in the final minute, McIntosh scored twice—just 10 seconds apart—to give Maple Ridge a 5-2 lead after the first period.

Shamrocks Narrow the Gap

Victoria opened the second period with a two-goal run. Kyle Pepper scored unassisted just 14 seconds in.

The two teams then went scoreless for over 16 minutes before Ari Stevens scored unassisted with 3:37 left to make it 5-4.

Winter responded with a power-play goal at 18:23 to restore the Burrards’ two-goal lead. But Marshal King scored shorthanded with 35 seconds remaining, making it 6-5 heading into the third.

Klarich Ends Victoria’s Four-Game Winning Streak

Marshal King struck again 3:19 into the third to complete his hat trick and tie the game.

With momentum on their side, Chris Wardle scored 1:43 later to give the Shamrocks their first lead of the game at 7-6.

At the 8:02 mark, Klarich found the back of the net to tie it 7-7. Neither team could find the go-ahead goal in regulation, and a five-minute overtime period produced no scoring, ending the game in a draw and halting the Shamrocks’ four-game winning streak.
