Thunderbirds Win Defensive Battle With Desert Dogs

The Halifax Thunderbirds (7-4) visited the Las Vegas Desert Dogs (3-9) in NLL action Saturday night .at Lee’s Family Forum in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Halifax came into the game winners of four straight and five of their last six outings.  Las Vegas has also come off a decisive victory against Colorado in their previous game, and were looking to keep up the momentum.

Ryan Terefenko (13g, 12a) has on fire during this win streak, posting 11 goals and 18 points over the previous four games.  Randy Staats’ (17g, 46a) and Clarke Petterson (17g, 32a) have also been at the top of the Thunderbirds production.

For Las Vegas, Jonathan Donville (12g,38a), Jack Hannah (27g,33a), Casey Jackson (19g,16a), Kyle Killen (12g,16a), Adam Poitras (14g,12a), and newly acquired Holden Cattoni 21g,38a) will give Halifax all they can handle.

The goaltending match-up had Warren Hill in net for the Thunderbirds facing Landon Kells in net for Las Vegas.

When a top offensive team meets a weaker defensive team, usually a lopsided score happens.  To their credit, the Las Vegas Desert Dogs played the Halifax Thunderbirds tough all game long.  Landen Kells made 52 saves only yielding eight goals in the 9-5 loss.

The Desert Dogs never really got on track offensively in this game, not getting on the board until Holden Cattoni scored almost five minutes into the second quarter.  While Cattoni and Jack Hannah had decent games for Las Vegas, the rest of the offense was silent.

Halifax was led by Cody Jamieson’s two goals, with eight different scorers throughout the night.  Warren Hill almost wound up on the scoresheet, firing a long shot with the Desert Dogs net empty. The shot went off the post and right to Tyson Bell, who was playing his first game after a lengthy suspention, who placed it in the empty net to seal the deal.
