The Victoria Shamrocks came away with a 6-3 win over the Langley Thunder in a goaltending duel on Wednesday night in Langley.

Chris Origlieri and Caleb Khan combined for 81 saves—41 for Origlieri and 40 for Khan—while giving up only nine goals in total.

Jesse King was involved in four of Victoria’s six goals, picking up four assists, while Jon Phillips had a goal and an assist for Langley.

The win puts Victoria two points ahead of the Coquitlam Adanacs for first place in the WLA with a record of 10-2-1. However, the Adanacs have a game in hand and face third-place New Westminster on Thursday night.

Victoria Takes an Early Lead

The game went scoreless for the first 11:48 until Chris Wardle broke the ice to give Victoria the lead.

Phillips tied it up for Langley with 1:03 left in the period.

Victoria managed to gain the final possession, and with Origlieri on the bench for the extra attacker, Kyle Pepper scored with two seconds remaining to give the Shamrocks a 2-1 lead after the first.

Shamrocks Extend Their Lead

Victoria opened up a three-goal lead in the second period. Patrick Dodds scored 22 seconds into the frame to make it 3-1.

Nick Preston capped off a three-goal run for the Shamrocks at 9:25 to make it 4-1.

Langley’s only goal of the second period came at 13:55, with Kordell Primus finding the back of the net unassisted.

Zach Manns buried a feed from Jesse King with 2:27 left in the frame, then added another with 1:16 remaining, giving Victoria a 6-2 lead heading into the third.

Khan Shuts Out the Shamrocks

Khan did everything he could to keep Langley in the game, stopping all 12 shots he faced in the third period.

The issue was Langley’s offence, which continued to struggle. After scoring only one goal in each of the first and second periods, they found the back of the net just once more in the third.

Kyle Brunsch scored the lone goal of the final frame just 33 seconds in, but Victoria held on for the 6-3 win in a goaltending duel.
