Westley’s Hat-Trick, Leads Brooklin To Victory Over Lakers

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (1-2) visited the Peterborough Lakers (2-1) in Major Series Lacrosse semi-final playoff action at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario Monday night.

The goaltending match-up had Steve Orleman in net for Brooklin facing Nick Rose in net for the Lakers.

Brooklin got themselves back in the series with an absolute defensive gem, holding rhe powerful Lakers to just four goals.

Up 3-0 early in the second, Peterborough came back like a tidal wave scoring four unanswered goals to take the lead.  Unfazed, Brooklin got late goals from Sean Westley and Connor Kearnan to take a 5-4 lead into the third period.

Steve Orleman was superb all game for Brooklin making 48 saves on 52 shots, but especially in the third period stopping all 19 shots.  Orleman was a huge reason that Brooklin came away with the 7-4 victory.

Sean Westley (3g,0a) led the way for Brooklin, as well as Connor Kearnan (1g,2a), and Ryan Barnable (1g,2a), while Thomas Hoggarth (2g,0a) and Joe Resetarits (0g,3a) were the offensive spark plugs for Peterborough.

To The Game:

Brooklin got on the board first when Eddie Renaud blasted a Michael White pass at 4:19, followed by Ryan Barnable finishing a Connor Kearnan pass on the power-play at 5:18.

After one period, Brooklin 2 Peterborough 0.

Second Period:

Sean Westley gave Brooklin a 3-0 lead with a nice finish of a Ryan Barnable pass at 0:44 seconds, but the Lakers would explode for four goals to take control.

Thomas Hoggarth got Peterborough on the board with an in close finish off a Joe Resetarits pass at 3:55, followed by Holden Cattoni firing a high to low laser off a Hoggarth feed at 4:22.

Braedon Saris tied the game on the power-play with a quick stick off a Holden Cattoni set up at 13:23, followed by Hoggarth with his second of the period off a Joe Resetarits pass 0:30 seconds later.

Brooklin kept fighting and were rewarded late.  Sean Westley tied the game with a sidearm snipe to the corner off a Mike Byrne pass at 17:39, followed by Connor Kearnan with an outside laser off a Zach Miller pass at 18:09.

After two periods, Brooklin 5 Peterborough 4.

Third Period:

Sean Westley gave Brooklin a bit of breathing room with a blast off a Taggert Clark pass at 6:51, followed by Will MacLeod putting the game on ice off a Holden Garlent pass in transition at 18:41.

Final score, Brooklin 7 Peterborough 4.
