Week 17 picks:
“Muffler” Mike:
Saskatchewan vs. Toronto
Toronto. As was noted on the last podcast, Toronto is one of the few teams that actually has the horses to keep pace with this Rush team. I think they’ll edge Saskatchewan in a track meet.
Halifax vs. Georgia
Halifax. It seems odd to think that the Swarm could have a 3-game losing streak with the frontrunner for league MVP in net…until you realize their offense has only averaged 7.67 goals per game over the last three games. Halifax has no such issue on offense.
Ottawa vs. Vancouver
Vancouver. No doubt, the Black Bears are an exciting team, especially in the fourth quarter of games when trailing. But the Warriors are firing on all cylinders and look to be the most complete team in the league right now.
Las Vegas vs. Rochester
Las Vegas. The Desert Dogs are starting to get a real taste of winning, and can set a franchise record for wins in a season while pushing closer to their first ever playoff berth.
Calgary vs. Colorado
Calgary. The Mammoth are inexplicably staring to collapse, while the Roughnecks are starting to hit their stride.
Buffalo vs. San Diego
Buffalo. The Bandits have won three straight, while the Seals have lost three straight. The quest for an unprecedented four-peat continues.
Shawn:
Saskatchewan vs. Toronto
Pick – Saskatchewan
I think Toronto matches up really well against the Rush. The youth movement in Toronto makes them one of the few teams that can keep up with Saskatchewan’s athleticism. However, I’m going to go with the Rush’s experience in a close game.
Halifax vs. Georgia
Pick – Georgia
Halifax has found a bit of a resurgence. However, they are going up against Brett Dobson. I think last week was a one-off for the Swarm and they will get back into form.
Ottawa vs. Vancouver
Pick – Vancouver
Ottawa is the best fourth-quarter team in the league, but it’s going to have to take more than one quarter to beat the Warriors. Vancouver will also be motivated to keep pace for first place.
Las Vegas vs. Rochester
Pick – Las Vegas
I’m just not sure what to make of Rochester. They have all the talent in the world and can’t put it together. Vegas may have found something in Alex Buque in net.
Calgary vs. Colorado
Pick – Colorado
I’m going with the Mammoth but not in a cakewalk. This Calgary team can be dangerous and you can’t take your foot off the gas. If Colorado wants to be a contender, they have to beat these teams at the bottom of the standings.
Buffalo vs. San Diego
Pick – Buffalo
Again, a pretty evenly matched game. San Diego has played well as of late, but the Bandits are starting to look like the defending champs once again.
Gary:
Saskatchewan vs. Toronto
Toronto wins.
The Rock can throw a lot of offense forward in a hurry, as can the Rush. Saskatchewan’s transition is a bit stronger. Where is the tipping factor? Goaltending. Nick Rose, when on, has shut down the best offenses lacrosse can put together, while Scigliano has sometimes let the big one slip away.
Halifax vs. Georgia
Halifax wins.
Georgia’s offense concerns me. All season they have relied on the spectacular goaltending of Brett Dobson. Halifax has been able to put up big numbers all year. Jobs are on the line in the Thunderbirds world. Watch how effective they can be with their backs against the wall.
Ottawa vs. Vancouver
Vancouver wins.
Ottawa had a good month of February, but we’re in March now, and it started rocky. Vancouver showed just how dominant they can be last week. Look for more of the same! The Warriors are my outside pick to go all the way this year.
Las Vegas vs. Rochester
Las Vegas wins.
The Knighthawks puzzle me entirely! The Desert Dogs are making a push for the playoffs. I really like Rochester, but Hartley’s play has been too inconsistent for me to go with them.
Calgary vs. Colorado
Colorado wins.
I really like the young upstart Roughnecks, they show a lot of character! Colorado has looked strangely disheveled lately. This is where the Mammoth find their game.
Buffalo vs. San Diego
San Diego wins.
The Bandits have looked like the Buffalo team of old recently. San Diego can be just as dangerous. If the Seals defense can come up big, they can beat the Bandits at home.

Pat:
Saskatchewan vs. Toronto
Saskatchewan Rush
Halifax vs. Georgia
Georgia Swarm
Ottawa vs. Vancouver
Vancouver Warriors
Las Vegas vs. Rochester
Rochester Knighthawks
Calgary vs. Colorado
Colorado Mammoth
Buffalo vs. San Diego
Buffalo Bandits
Caden:
Saskatchewan vs. Toronto —
Saskatchewan
Sask has been one of the hotter teams out of the gate and just has way more consistency right now, while Toronto’s been up-and-down and still figuring itself out . Feels like Rush control this one unless they randomly go cold.
Halifax vs. Georgia —
Georgia
Neither team screams dominant, but Halifax has struggled to keep games tight lately, and Georgia tends to hang around and capitalize late. This feels like a grind-it-out Swarm win.
Ottawa vs. Vancouver —
Vancouver
Vancouver’s been one of the sneakier solid teams so far, playing cleaner lacrosse overall, while Ottawa has been kind of streaky . I trust the Warriors more in a close game.
Las Vegas vs. Rochester —
Rochester
Rochester’s shown they can stack wins when they get rolling, and Vegas still feels inconsistent week to week . If the Knighthawks get any rhythm offensively, they should take it.
Calgary vs. Colorado —
Colorado
Calgary’s had a rough start compared to expectations, while Colorado has been more balanced early on . Mammoth just look a bit more put together right now.
Buffalo vs. San Diego —
Buffalo
Until proven otherwise, I’m riding Buffalo—they’re the defending champs and still one of the most complete teams in the league . San Diego can score, but Buffalo usually finds a way to win these big ones.
