Salmonbellies Double Up the Burnaby Lakers

With a seven-goal run spanning the second and third periods, the New Westminster Salmonbellies doubled up the Burnaby Lakers 10-5 on Thursday night.

The win moved the Salmonbellies back above .500 with a record of 3-2, while the Burnaby Lakers fell to 0-4 and continue to search for their first win.

New Westminster was led by Noah Armitage, who finished with four goals and three assists. Will Malcom was back in the lineup and made an immediate impact with three goals and two assists.

Ashton LeClair was solid in goal for the Salmonbellies, stopping 37 of 42 shots for the win.

For the Burnaby Lakers, Finn Halladay led the way with a hat trick and one assist. It was a rough night for Marc Rippberger, who stopped 35 of 45 shots in the loss.

First Period

New Westminster got on the board first when Armitage found the back of the net 4:40 into the game.

The Lakers replied on the power play at 7:49, with Halladay scoring unassisted.

The Salmonbellies retook the lead at 12:12 when Axel Sanderson scored unassisted. However, Burnaby responded at 15:58, with Halladay scoring another power-play marker.

Malcom rounded out the scoring with two seconds left on the clock as the Salmonbellies took a 3-2 lead into the second period.

Second Period

Burnaby opened the second period with a two-goal run to take its first lead of the game. Thomas Vela started it off on the power play at 5:05. Halladay then scored 39 seconds later to make it 4-3 for the Lakers.

However, New Westminster would score seven straight goals to take control of the game.

Armitage scored on the power play at 9:15, followed by another unassisted goal from Sanderson at 10:23.

Armitage made it 6-4 for the Salmonbellies at 13:32, followed by Malcom scoring on the power play at 15:56 as New Westminster led 7-4 heading into the third period.

Third Period

New Westminster kept its foot on the gas to start the third period. Will Mackay scored at the 4:14 mark on the power play, and Malcom added another goal two minutes later to make it 9-4.

Armitage rounded out the seven-goal run at the 14:52 mark of the third period to make it a six-goal game.

Ethan M’Lot finally got the Burnaby Lakers back on the board on the power play with 1:16 left to play, making the final score 10-5.
