The Maryland Whipsnakes seem to be in full control in the first half of this game, starting with 5 unanswered goals including a 2 pointer from Ajax Zappitello. Maryland Whipsnakes would go up 10-3 with just over 3 minutes left in the first half. TJ Malone, Truitt Sunderland and Petey LaSalla all had a pair of goals for Maryland. Rob Pannell was a great facilitator, dishing out 5 assists to go with a goal in this game as he continues to approach the all-time points record.

However, the Whipsnakes were unable to get anything going to slow down New York’s momentum in the second half as they lost the 7-goal lead and the game, 16-14. I liked Maryland’s game plan of dialing up some nice transition goals, but we shall see if the Whipsnakes can bounce back into the win column when they face the Denver Outlaws next weekend in San Diego.

Atlas Refuse To Stay Down

Just when it looked like New York was headed for a loss and a weekend split, this Atlas team refused to lay down, showing a heart of champion. The Atlas made adjustments in the second half, particular to their defense, which seemed to take Maryland out of their rhythm. New York also worked their pick and roll plays much better in the second half. Connor Shellenberger and Xander Dickson both put up 3 goals a piece. Bryan Costabile, Matt Rambo and Reid Bowering each put up a pair of goals, and Costabile also added a 2-pointer.

New York did a great job of defending their home field in winning both games on the weekend. The defending champion Atlas warning the rest of the PLL not to leave them off the radar. New York is now back to being a .500 team at 3-3, and get a bye week before the All-Star break.
