Adanacs Take First Two Games Against Burrards

Game 1: Burrards at Adanacs, Tuesday July 29

Game 1 took place at the Coquitlam Sports Centre on Tuesday night. The Adanacs got out to a 4-0 lead in the first period and never looked back in a convincing 13-7 win. James Rahe tallied seven points on the night (2g, 5a), earning 1st Star of the Game honors. David Charney (3g, 3a) and Kean Moon (1g, 5a) each finished with six points; Moon was awarded 3rd Star of the Game. The Adanacs outshot Maple Ridge 57-41, and goaltender Christian Del Bianco made 34 saves in the win.

Coquitlam held league MVP Marcus Klarich to just three points on the night (1g, 2a). Dagan Carlson (2g, 3a) and Payton Cormier (3g, 2a) led the way with five points each. However, the Burrards could not get any closer than three goals after the initial run by Coquitlam. Maple Ridge, who had the most penalty minutes of any team in the WLA this season, didn’t help their cause by racking up 36 minutes in penalties during the game. Brandon Humphrey made 44 saves in the loss.

Game 2: Adanacs at Burrards, Thursday July 31

Game 2 from Cam Neely Arena was a much closer affair, with the Adanacs winning 13-12 in overtime. The Burrards got out to a 5-2 lead after one period, but trailed 7-6 after two periods of play. They rallied from a 10-7 deficit to force the extra period of play, then went up 12-10 before a late three-goal run from Coquitlam sealed a 2-0 series lead. Top scorers for the Adanacs included Kean Moon (4g, 3a), Clark Walter (6a), David Charney (2g, 3a), Dennon Armstrong (2g, 3a), Jalen Chaster (2g, 2a), and James Rahe (2g, 1a). Moon was named 2nd Star of the Game, and Walter earned 3rd Star honors. Christian DelBianco made 33 saves in the win. The Adanacs outshot Maple Ridge 53-48, and 12-5 in the overtime period. The Burrards were paced by 1st Star of the Game Marcus Klarich (4g, 5a), along with Dagan Carlson (3g, 2a), Dylan McIntosh (2g, 2a), Payton Cormier (2g, 1a) and Ryan Jones (3a). Brandon Humphrey stopped 40 shots in net for the Burrards. Coquitlam can sweep the series when the teams return to the Coquitlam Sports Centre on Wednesday night for Game 3.
