
The race for second place in the WLA got a little tighter after the Coquitlam Adanacs defeated the Maple Ridge Burrards 12-6 on Saturday night.
Coquitlam improved to 9-6 and remains in third place in the WLA standings. The Adanacs gained ground on Maple Ridge, which remains in second place despite dropping to 11-5.
The Adanacs jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on Saturday night and never looked back.
Robert Church led Coquitlam with three goals and three assists, while David Charney had two goals and three assists. James Rahe finished with four points, including a goal and three assists. Riley Isaac and Jalen Chaster also scored twice.
Between the pipes, Christian Del Bianco stopped 33 of 39 shots for the win.
For Maple Ridge, Payton Cormier led the way with a hat trick. Garret Winter finished with two goals and an assist, while Marcus Klarich had a goal and two assists.
Jack Kask got the start in goal and stopped 39 of 50 shots in the loss.
First Period
Coquitlam wasted little time taking control, with Church opening the scoring just 35 seconds into the game.
James Rahe doubled the lead before Church added his second of the period. Clark Walter rounded out the first-period scoring with 1:23 remaining as the Adanacs carried a commanding 4-0 lead into the first intermission.
Del Bianco was outstanding in the opening period, stopping all 13 shots he faced.

Second Period
Isaac extended the lead to 5-0 early in the second before Maple Ridge showed signs of life.
Winter scored on the power play, and Klarich added an even-strength goal just over two minutes later to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Chaster answered with back-to-back goals in a span of 36 seconds, restoring Coquitlam’s momentum.
Charney added a power-play marker before Church completed his hat trick later in the period.
Ethan Ticehurst and Charney scored 20 seconds apart late in the frame as the Adanacs erupted for seven goals in the second period and took an 11-3 lead into the third.
Third Period
Maple Ridge opened the third with consecutive goals from Cormier on the power play and Winter at even strength before Cormier completed his hat trick with a shorthanded marker midway through the period.
Isaac answered with his second goal of the game to restore Coquitlam’s six-goal advantage and cap the scoring.
Tempers started to flare late in the game.
A melee broke out at the 5:28 mark, resulting in multiple penalties. Maple Ridge’s Rhys Blake was assessed a fighting major, while Coquitlam’s James Rahe received a roughing minor and Jalen Chaster was handed a major for being the third man in. Blake was also assessed an instigator penalty and two game misconducts. Chaster also received a game misconduct.
Tempers flared again with 1:14 remaining when Maple Ridge’s Hayden Wasson and Coquitlam’s Brian Simmons dropped the gloves. Both players received fighting majors and game misconducts.
When the dust settled, Coquitlam had earned a 12-6 victory to tighten the race for second place in the WLA standings.
